Guest guest
I sponsor a child through Childreach (Plan USA - formerly Parents Plan). They are requesting donations. They have staff onsite in many of the stricken areas: Sri Lanka, Thailand, India, Indonesia. Their staff knows the children and families and is familiar with the locale. I feel that my money will be spent in a way to do the most good. https://www.planusa.org/action/donation This is only one of many worthwhile organizations. My grandfather was also a soldier and after the war would only give to the Salvation Army, never the Red Cross. I've heard so much negative publicity about the Red Cross, but don't have any facts to share. .....joan ======== I've had a problem with the red cross though for a good while! They only want money - they never want goods - and a few years back, I read that only a small percentage of the money donated actually goes to the cause, because the majority goes to the red tape and paid positions within their organization. I'd like to find a way to get it more directly to the people who need it. There was someone else on Television from one of the countries. He mentioned some other ways to donate, but it went in one ear and out the other - and I couldn't remember who he said he was getting supplies from. He knows who needs rice, and who doesn't. I'd donate to somewhere who would give the money without the bureaucratic mumbo jumbo!! Cris off topic - Red Cross donation via Amazon.com You can now make a donation to the Red Cross for disaster relief via Amazon.com It's very easy, especially if you're set up with Amazon to buy/deal with " One-Click " . I just went over there - in 5 seconds it's a done deal.
