Hey ,

I just want you to relax about the cysto...I have been a kidney patient for 30

years because of stones, infections, and problems and I was a urology nurse for

seven years so I can help from both angles.

Most doctors doing an office, awake cysto will fill your bladder with Lidocaine

jelly using a syringe looking thing with a soft rounded tip and possibly some

sterile saline...the bladder is then nice and rounded and totally visible

instead of being shriveled like a balloon that has lost it's air. The Lidocaine

doesn't last long so you don't have to worry about delayed sensation later in

the day. If you have an adverse reaction to the Lidocaine then it is totally

possible to do this without it. Some doctors will suck the fluid out while the

scope is still in place, some have you urinate when finished. I never had a

problem with any burning later in the day. There are persons with IC that do

have pain/burning all the time because their bladders are hypersensitive and

they usually complained of even a little cramping during the procedure.

Women are generally tougher about these procedures and have very few

complaints...that is because we are better than the boys! I think you will be

fine and certainly if you have questions, ask once you have a knowledge of the

game it is less frightening.

Debra
