Guest guest
Thank you Cindy for the explanation. A C&S stands for culture and sensitivity. I have a friend who is being evaluated for Intertestistinal Cystitis now. She is experiencing alot of pain and bleeding but no infection has been found. Have your doc's been able to treat your IC very affectively? I know she is pretty discouraged right now with the possible Dx. Thanks again,
Guest guest
, I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis 12 years ago and had bladder dilation and other tests--have forgotten the exact names. Normally they do these tests under general anesthesia, but for me they did a spinal block. I had problems with that too, but it was necessary to get a diagnosis. The IC is an ongoing problem, but we control it various ways. My nephrologist believes in my case the IC is caused by my metabolic disease, due to abnormal content of the urine. I think he is right. Sorry you have to have more tests....but hopefully they can pinpoint your problem and find a way to deal with it. Barbara > Thank you Cindy for the explanation. Guest guest
Ok, Thanks for telling me what the C&S initials stood for. My IC (Interstitial cystitis) is effectively treated IF I take my Elmiron regularly. Elmiron helps rebuild the mucousal lining of the bladder (my laymen's terms). First, they tried to treat with the antispasmodics (Ditropan for example). They also tried Uristat on me, none of these helped. They called it " irritable bladder " at that point. When they did my biopsy, they found irritation that is indicative of IC and they did dilation to try to treat (I don't think that helped). Then after trying Elmiron for about two months, my symptoms mostly disappeared. The doc said this in itself is diagnostic of IC. I'm not always consistent about my three doses a day and sometimes it flares up again (like today) until I'm more consistent. I suspect it's all related to mito, too. My son has bladder problems (neurogenic bladder), he also has serious GI problems and I have severe irritable bowel. To me, it's all shades of the same thing. I hope your friend gets some help - IC is horrible to suffer with! Perhaps the Elmiron could help her, too. I don't think it's frequently used but no side effects for me at all - until I don't take it. Cindy > Thank you Cindy for the explanation. A C&S stands for culture and > sensitivity.
