Guest guest
I saw my urologist today and he was concerned about the recurrent UTI's. I'm going to have a cystoscopy of my bladder done in the office in 2 wks. He wants me to have another C&S done first. After the scope he is going to start me on prophalactic antibiotic for 4 months and see if that will ward off further infections. Has anyone had a cystoscope awake? All I know about is my dad having them under anesthesia when he had stones. It was a really good appt. and he offered me the position as his nurse. I was really flattered, but had to turn him down as I'm unable to travel and work full time. He is only in my town one day a week and needs a nurse to travel with him to other clinics during the week. I'm really dissapointed because it's something I would love to do and to be offered a position without even having my degree yet was really neat. Guest guest
Hi, ! (What is a C&S?) I have had a bladder scope in the urologist’s office (as well as a bladder scope under general anesthesia with biopsy). I have Interstitial Cystitis and so was having terrible bladder pain (I use Elmiron now which helps that a lot). The scope in his office made me very nervous because of the pain I was already having. They first placed a large q tip with numbing gel in the opening, and then a few minutes later placed the tube with the scope. It just took a few minutes as he looked around. It was not comfortable, but it wasn’t the worst thing I’ve experienced either. I must say I was pretty sore afterward. It wasn’t fun, but it wasn’t as bad as I had expected. I hope that helps a little. I hope it helps your doctor figure out your problems. Congratulations on the great compliment he paid to you by offering you a job! Guest guest
, I'm glad your appointment went well today. I don't know anything about the test you are going to have so I can't offer any help there. What a neat job offer though. I bet you wish you could have taken it. I know I would have. Guest guest
-dear Alison, That was wonderful that your uronlogist offered you the job. Too bad you couldn't take it though. It would be neat you if you could one day a week at your own locale for him. I'm a nurse too- even used to work in urology at one point, so I'm sure that wuld be an interesting job. Guest guest
Hi , I am glad that you had a good doc appt. today. I find it interesting that he is willing to start you on prophalactic antibiotics after the scope is done. It is hard to find doctors who are willing to go that route without definite results pointing towards the cure. I think that with Mito at times we need to go on antibiotics even if all the test results don't necessarily point in that direction. How cool that you were offered a job as his nurse. I bet you felt like a million dollars!!! Just having someone acknowledge your skills and professional courtesy towards people. You would make a wonderful nurse. Too bad that you had to turn down the job, it would have been nice if you could have worked for him on the one day during the week that he practices locally. I hope the cystoscope is successful and that there is no pain associated with it. Thinking of you. Keeping you in my prayers. Guest guest
I also had this done with a final dx of Interstital Cystitis. Mine was done as an outpatient at the hospital and I asked for a spinal anesthesia vs the general. Not sure it was the right choice because the others that had a general were in and out in no time! I had to 'defrost' (the nurses term) and was there almost two hours. It's a quick check for small bleeds or hemmorages in the lining of the bladder. And yes, it's a small tube with a camera at the end. My Uro said that antibotics were not used (at that time...5 yrs ago) because it's an autoimmune disease where there is an overproduction of a certain chemical that causes ulcers in the lining of the bladder. Interstital cystitis is QUITE painful. I likened it to having a bunch of tacks in your hand then someone saying " squeeze as hard as you can'. Yea. Hurts like heck. I've been relatively symptom free for several years. Doc said it can come and go, so I hope the best for you!! ~Kathy~ > I saw my urologist today and he was concerned about the recurrent UTI's.
