Hi -

I know of one other member on this list who had iron infusions

here in NYC pre-surgery, also at a hospital. Perhaps she will

read this and respond.

It's a good question as to what exactly is in the infusion. I didn't

ask or feel the need to know, but I am sure that Roma, if she

sees your question, can answer this question definitively.

My infusion was given in an area of the hospital that

administered chemotherapy and procrit, so it is also probably in

Oncology Wings at other facilities. I had six treatments, and each

time I was hooked up to an IV first to saline and then a bag of

dark red " infusion " , which took about an hour, sometimes more,

to drip in. It was painless, except for the needle, which by now I

don't even notice! I had no problems absorbing, and had no side

effects - I finally felt able to walk uphill without gasping for air.

The hematologist told me that it would be about 10 days before I

felt better, but I felt a difference after only a week. When I was

done, my ferritin went up to a whopping 188. It's a good thing,

too, as I had a very heavy period right before the operation and

my ferritin dropped to 98.

I hope that you hear positively from others. I'm glad that this

resource was available to me.
