Urinary tract infections, etc. (attn LeCretia)

LeCretia, I have had a couple of UTIs this year. I have Hashi's and weight

that will not budge. Every time I try to take Armour, I start swelling and

then BP rises. It comes on very slowly. I've recently realized that when I

swell, my urinary output is decreased and then I get a UTI. My last one was

a month ago and it took two antibiotics to knock it out. I know it is an

adrenal problem but I don't believe it is low cortisol. I had that checked

by Great Smokies a year ago and it was fine. I believe it is low potassium

and blood tests have confirmed that. I've been having a terrible time with

nervousness since my last Armour trial which ended Oct 20. The only thing

that has helped with the nerves is RX potassium. Over the holidays, I

gobbled it just to be able to cope. Once in a while, Gatorade helps.

Gatorade is higher sodium. I am having bouts of nausea but cannot link it

to either potassium or sodium. Anyway, I don't have it figured out. I'm

seeing a new doc on 1/3/05 so I am hopeful this mystery can be solved. I

have impaired fasting glucose and have been on Actos since mid-July. That

has put another 10 pounds on me. I found a study on Pub-Med that shows

Actos causes weight gain. That's all I needed.

I would agree with you except I just turned 30 this year so, it's too early

to have this kind of problem. I spoke to my grandmother over the weekend

who has diabetes and she said that is how they found her diabetes...she kept

having urinary infections and finally they tested her and that was it. I'm

thinking this could be the same issue for me but, will have to wait to see

the urologist after the first of the year to get his opinion on it. I

haven't been tested for diabetes in years and I guess it could have

developed later (it did for my grandmother as well...I think she found out

in her 30's too). Not many folks replied to my post though...I was hoping

there would be some folks here that have both Hashi's, adrenal fatigue, and

diabetes that could comment on such a problem. Thanks for the suggestion

though. I'm on my last day of antibiotics today and I'm still having to go

pretty bad. It did improve but, I don't think this first set is going to

cure it. Last time it took two different antibiotics to cure it. I'm on my

5th set of antibiotics this year...that couldn't be good.
