Guest guest Posted January 1, 2001 Report Share Posted January 1, 2001 Anyone ever hear of an autistic child enjoying being sprayed with cold water? was in the tub tonight and I was rinsing her hair in the tub. The water had accidentally cooled off and I realized that she actually seemed to like it. I kept spraying her and she was smiling and looked " dreamy. " Her mood improved - she had been quite nasty before the cold (not freezing) water spray. I put the shower head back in the holder and she laid down in the empty tub under the cold water spray and rolled around in it. After she came out she was very pleasant and very very calm. I wrapped her in a towel and was holding her and she kept looking at me. I gave her a kiss and she gave me a kiss back (I always have to tell her to kiss mommie.) Very odd behavior for . It's now a race to get through hair shampooing, brushing teeth and bathing just so I can empty the bath and go to the spraying. The water is luke warm to cold - her face lights up - I spend a lot of the time spraying her face and back while she lies on her belly in the bath - SI kid. Guest guest Posted January 2, 2001 Report Share Posted January 2, 2001 Danny does not like to get anything in his face, but one thing that I do find is that he is much more sensitive to hot water than I had ever realized. He always would have a really tough time in the bath, and hated having his hair washed; then about 3 or 4 months ago, I realized (quite by accident as well) that he did much better if the water was cooler. He still does not love to get his hair washed, but is much better at tolerating it. I think that his body's thermometer is different and that he is much more sensitive to the temperature than the norm. But that is actually a neat observation about . prefers cooler water to warm, so I always make his baths a bit cooler. I just thought the water itself calmed him down, not the temperature.
