( Just some advice...for insurance purposes..your doctor should use the code of mood disorder as in the future, the person who has bipolar may be denied insurance...mood disorder is sort of amorphous. I wrote to the husband and wife team who wrote The BiPolar Child about mito and the unusually large amount of affected with ADD/ADHD and BiPolar. They were very interested and I referred them to the UMDF site. Whether or not they do any further research I don't know.. As you know, mito can affect every and any order in the body, including the brain! You could write the authors of that book (their name escapes me right now) to seee if their picked up on the mito connection, To anyone who has a bipolar child, I would also encourage them to write the doctors to see if they are exploring the connection, Carol

Guest guest
At various times in her life my 30 year old daughter has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, atypical psychosis, schizo-affective disorder, and autism. Obviously no one can have all of these disorders. At various times and over the years she presented with these problems. Then the symptoms would clear for awhile. All psychiatrists who have seen her have said her problems are organic incause. She was diagnosed clinically as having mitochondrial encephalopathy in 1998 at Dr. Kelley at Kennedy Kreiger. Her neurologist agrees. She is currently in the hospital recovering from a " crisis " of motor, cognitive and behavioral regression.
