Guest guest
Can anyone recommend a decent, informed Neurologist in the Bergen County area? A relative is looking for one for a non-autism related situation for her 18 month old. Pediatric would be a plus. Is Dr. Neubrander a Neurologist? Anyone have any experience with Dr. Heilbronner in Ridgewood (he's a partner with Dr. Adler, and we know all about him....) You can e-mail me privately. Thanks. Guest guest
Dr. Poorvi Patel, she is head of pediatric neurology at St. ph's in Paterson. She also has office in Rochelle Park. I liked her. She did not rush me out of her office, answered all my questions and took the time to listen to my concerns. Debby

Guest guest
The first Dr. which we went to was Dr Heilbroner. Kenny was 2 years old at the time. He gave me the " it could be a severe speech delay or pdd/autism, but because Kenny is so young he couldn't give a diagnosis " . He recommended speech and OT 2-3 x's a week. So I left thinking he had a severe speech delay. Dr Heilbroner never recommended ABA, to contact COSAC, no testing was done. 6 mths later we go back he gives me the same line. He recommended PAXIL because Kenny was anxious. I was so mad!! How dare he recomend a drug, my son hasn't even started school yet! PLus For a pediatric nuro. I thought the office and rooms were not very pediatric looking, the examining room was like an adult examining room. So I left upset. My Mother in law who was a spec ed teacher in Sept 99 sat us down and said Kenny is autistic. When I read the info from COSAC about autism, he had all the symptoms. Finally we convinced Dr. Heilbroner to give us the diagnosis, so we could start the school/EIP process. Next I went the Developmental Pediatrician route, I had an appt with Dr ph Holahan for Dec, Dr Nalven For Oct and Dr McCarton could see us sooner in Sept. So we saw her and I'm very happy with Dr. McCarton. Guest guest
Ezzie, That stinks! I know many of us are bitter that we needed desperately to know what was wrong with our kids and it was frustrating that noone told us yet we had that awful pit in our stomach that wouldn't go away. I did luck out in that Holahan did diagnose my son at 2.3 and it was because of her that we started home ABA so young, so I owe her one for sure. My son is almost 6 and we are now at a new crossroad (I suppose). I need to start investigating medications. Do you feel Dr. McCarton is knowledgeable about the different medications, pros and cons? Where is he/she? Do you have a tel #? Thanks, JoAnne ezzie klein wrote: > The first Dr. which we went to was Dr Heilbroner. > Kenny was 2 years old at the time. Guest guest
When my older son was having intermittant stuttering and facial tics, I took him to Dr. Steinschneider in Ridgewood. During the one hour exam, Conor had a lot of eye blinking/rolling and would jerk his head back at the same time. Afterward, Conor left the room and I asked the neurologist what he thought of these tics. He never even noticed them and did not know what I was talking about. Guest guest
Isn't she a developmental ped? Heidi Yes, that is the impression I got. Also, when I called last spring I felt like Dr. McCarton was incredibly expensive for kids that were not newly diagnosed. We had no need to see her nutritionist, her psychologist etc. I didn't think you could just see Dr. McCarton for a simply consult and that you had to take her whole staff or nothing. I think the minimum we would be charged for the initial workup was close to $2,000 and the secretary was clear that many aspects of the consult would not be covered by insurance..
