Have been through a sleep study, told I have central apnea -- which isn't a

mechanical problem like obstructve apnea, but a wiring problem: my brain

forgets to tell my lungs to breathe, until I notice and begin to wake up with an

enormous gasp for air. At some sleep stages this happens about every minute or

so. I was given a CPAP machine which has next to no effect on central apnea --

but what has helped my sleep is Remeron, an anti-depressant that also seems to

help with apnea (according to a tiny study at U of Illinois). In my opinion it

would be worth a try...
