Hi, everyone,

June the first. We left the snow flurries of West Virginia and

" Spring Fling " just a couple of weeks ago, right? Then " Autumn in

Carolina " is just that much closer. The gathering will be on October

8. Yep, I know that the date is only a week after the big walk in

Ohio. However, the good news is Columbus Day falls on October 10,

which will give a few of us a day to recoup or travel.

The gathering will again be in Rural Hall, North Carolina. We will

utilize the same motel as in 2004. The Holliday Inn Select (Madison

Park, Winston-Salem) has reserved a block of 15 rooms, including five

accessible (no roll-in showers) rooms in the name of " Autumn in

Carolina " . The rate for the rooms will be $57.25 plus tax. (The

person who gave the first price of $72.00 a night is no longer

employed.) Those making reservations at the Holiday Inn Select

should ask for rooms from the " Autumn in Carolina " block. The toll

free number is 1-.

We will have a hospitality room in the motel on Friday and Saturday

evenings.

There are other motels in the area:

The Super 8 Motel is just next-door and has rooms available at

present, including accessible rooms, two smoking and two non-smoking.

The standard rate is $69.88 plus tax. The toll free number is 1-800-

800-8000.

A Quality Inn is across the street from the Holiday Inn Select.

They have rooms at $65.00 plus tax, but do not have any rooms that

would qualify as accessible. The direct number is 1-.

A Day's Inn is located one exit south on Highway 52. The rate there

is $56.95, and they report having accessible rooms. The direct

number is 1-.

Two exits south of the Holiday Inn Select is the Motel 6. They list

rooms at $35.99 plus tax and also report having accessible rooms,

however there are few amenities. The number there is 1-.

Those arriving on Friday may gather in the hospitality room for

introductions and conversations, and then the group will share a meal

at a nearby restaurant.

The gathering on Saturday will be in the Fellowship Hall of Kingswood

United Methodist Church, just a few minutes from any of the motels.

Program for Saturday is being formulated.

One activity will be wheel chair and scooter races under sanction

from SAWCAR (Scooter and Wheel Chair Association of Racing. Racers,

start planning your strategy and remember that it takes a lot of

expensive technology to maintain those racing machines, so sponsors

are needed to help.

Everyone will be invited to again share a meal at another nearby

restaurant Saturday evening.

" Autumn in Carolina " will be just about the halfway point for

Ronnie's Penny Campaign. It will be a good time to compare totals

and hints.

Bettie Jo and I hope to see old friends and make new ones at " Autumn

in Carolina " .
