My father takes it. I'm not sure the amount. He didn't

think it was doing a lot for his leg pain/tingling,

but when he went off of it, he noticed a big

difference. It was doing more good than he thought.

For a while, we thought his speech problems were

caused by the Neurontin, but there was no change for

the better in his speech when he went off.

He has no other side effects that we've noticed,

either.

Janice, My mother Joyce (MSA, 71, died 11/5/00) was on Fosamax. I believe

she had to take it in the mornings before anything else. I think she wasn't

supposed to exercise for a short while, too. She never had problems with

other drugs except she had to time everything correctly.

My sister also has osteoporosis and has for a few years. She is 49.

Janice,

You can have osteoporosis at any age, but it is more common in women

after menopause. It tends to be from lack of calcium, but it can

also result from certain medications, steroids being one. Rob's

primary care doctor ordered a bone density test for him since he's

been on florinef (which is a steroid) for nearly 4 years -- he's male

and 55. His came back normal, but everyone who is taking florinef

should probably take note and ask your primary care physician about

testing for this.

Hi Kathy

Meurontin has been banned in Australia. I dont know why though. I

only know as my sister used to take it when travelling to Aussie to

cure jet lag. It worked well for that. Last trip she had run out and

could not get it as it had been banned. I will try to find out why.

Love Anne

Greetings Kathy!

Yes, I take neurontin. It works well at controlling neuropathy. It does

not completely eliminate the tingling / burning sensation. But using it

definitely makes it much more acceptable.

How does it affect me? Well, it takes a matter of several weeks to adjust

to the dosage. Until I adjusted to neurontin, it made me rather 'spacey'.

Hopefully Dave receive a prescription that requires gradual increase in the

dosage until the final dosage is achieved. For example, I take 600mg of

neurontin 4 times per day. Initially, the dosage was 300 mg 3 times per

day. I started with one 300mg pill per day for a week. The second week I

added the second dosage per day. Finally, on the third week I increased the

dosage to 300mg 3 times per day.

But as this progresses, I need higher dosages of neurontin. So, I gradually

increased the dosage (under doctor supervision - of course!) to 600 mg 4

times per day. But even that increase required gradual increase over a

series of weeks.

Finally, be certain to not suddenly change the dosage ... that is, try to

keep Dave at the prescribed dosage (don't skip).

Hope that helps.

Kathy,

My mother takes Neurontin for her Leg Cramps. So far she still is doing OK

with it.

She takes 1 in the am, 1 at lunch, 1 at dinner, and 2 at bedtime! (also note

that it takes up to 2 hours after you take it for you to start feeling the

effects.) She does get a little sleepy with it though!

Take Care,

Amy

  • 2 years later...

I had all kinds of problems with Neurontin. It was what they gave me after

topamax gave me kidney stones. I was taking it for my muscle cramps. I had

outrageous mood swings, depression, drunken episodes, and an occasional suicidal

tendency.

All that was over a period of about two weeks. Sometimes I wonder if the

doctors are playing jokes on us with these medicines.

I hope you can find some help.
