Jackie-

Sounds to me like Danny is trying to tell you something. I think your

story sounds positive and I'm confused about why you are looking for a

" better " solution. Are you afraid that Danny will fall out of the bed?

Maybe you can start with a mattress on the floor or a toddler bed. 's

has " walls " on half of each side. Or place something cushioned on the floor

for him to fall on to?

Or is it waking up at 3:30am? Can you keep him up later? This is an

issue I leave to someone else!

I wish I had a solution to the bed issue myself. Our son is 4 and still in

a

crib (and loving every minute of it), but, as you know, it is ridiculous to

foster that kind of dependence when we are encouraging all sorts of

self-sufficiency in other life skills.

Anyway, while my husband and I are stalling on the topic, Danny climbed up

on

his brother's twin bed (as he often does just for fun) afew night's ago, and

fell asleep!! We convinced Sam to sleep in the extra bedroom and Danny

slept

alone (with a side rail and comforter rolled up) from 9pm to 3:30am!!! I

didn't enjoy the am wake up, but at least it was a solid 6+ hours. Maybe

he's trying to tell us something.

We're probably going for the twin bed with a side rail because, as any of

you

who have a typically developing kid know, it's usually a chore for at least

a

few weeks.

In the meantime, I'd welcome a better and less painful answer.
