We all had a great time. On a serious note I am convinced he is just not "getting" everything. I'll watch his face as he tries to comprehend all of our conversations, etc. I haven't done any auditory processing training with him. Is anyone convinced Tomatis, FastForWord, etc. has helped their child? It's time for me to get off the fence on this one. Thanks, JoAnne
Guest guest
JoAnne, I am totally convinced that music therapy helped my son, . He started it at 33 months and has been doing it since January. When we first started he wouldn't tolerate it for more than 30 seconds. At times we had to restrain him to get on the headphones. It was horrible, yet I have total faith in his OT and we just stuck it out. I have recently asked his OT why she uses Somonas instead of Tomatis and she told me that the Somonas was more appropriate for because his processing of sound was so profoundly delayed. He has just started to (after 3 months) notice sounds like an airplane flying over head and the windshield wiper in my car. He also is able to process a 2-3 step command. (throw this in the garbage, and put this in the sink and then come give me a hug) He still tends to get overwhelmed when there is a lot of noise going on but he is able to ask for a hug or something to chew on. He is now up to 30+ minutes a day. I am starting to do it in the car on the way to OT in Chester. A friend of mine does it during meal time. Whatever you choose make sure you understand why they are using which program. Jenn

I feel exactly the same way about Ben! There is alot that he just doesn't get. We did Berard in June, and I wish I could say that it did great things, but I'm yet to see it. Guest guest
Krista, I'm arranging for ph to get a FastForWord evaluation at a speech center in Short Hillls that I trust. I'm waiting for them to call with screening questions. I'm hoping he can do it around his 6th birthday (next February), but at least if this place doesn't feel ph will benefit, they won't take our money and we all know what a breath of fresh air that can be!
