Guest guest
Welcome to the Adventures in dom Part 1 (This is mostly off topic but read it if you want a good laugh! Laughing burns calories I hear!) So I got off work Tuesday and headed home to check out my new apartment and start moving some things in just to make the official move a little quicker on Wednesday. My roomate and I took a couple loads over to the new apartment and tried to be as quiet as possible moving things from the truck to the elevator and up to the apartment in the middle of night. We didn't want to wake the whole complex. Being quiet isn't as easy as you would think! Luckily, my dog Jordan was at a friends house being " doggysat " so she wasn't in the way or barking at anything that moved. The apartment is great! We expected something different because he used to live there but he lived on the 1st floor before. We live on the 3rd floor now. The 1st floor is brand new and remolded thanks to Tropic Storm so our apartment did look different but it was great just the same. So far, everything is going well. We went back to the old apartment and continued to do some last minute packing and cleaning. It's about 3 a.m. now and we are both wide awake and I figured since we had to be up at 6 a.m. anyways why don't we just stay up all night and get some things done, let the movers do their thing in the morning, and go to sleep for awhile after and then finish up. Sounded like a good idea at the time. We were both hungry so we decided to go for dinner at a 24 hour restaurant. Eating dinner at a 24 hour restaurant at 3:00 a.m. that is right next to clubs is not a great idea. The place was full of loud, annoying drunks. We left there around 4:30 and headed back home still wide awake. We continued to pack, clean, and etc. and before we knew it it was light outside. We took a load over to the new apartment and then came to wait for the movers that were coming between 7 and 9 a.m. The cable was coming between 8 - 10 and someone had to be there so we called the cable to ask if they would call before they came so we didn't have to split up. They said yes and we waited for the movers out by the street. Around 8:35 I told my roommate to call and see if the movers called before they came as well so we could do what we needed to do. We had reserved these movers November 21 and they called the day before to confirm. My roommate called and they told him we were not scheduled for today! ! ! Our account is there but not put the file to be done today. The lady never proccessed the file so that the truck came by to move us! We fought with the movers for over an hour as we waited for the cable at the new apartment. The movers said they would get us moved but it would be later that afternoon sometime. They would call. So...we were at their mercy. The cable guy didn't come until way after 10 a.m. (he was supposed to come between 8 - 10) and turned the cable on. We continued to move stuff back and forth all day. It wasn't too bad because the new complex has an elevator but the old one doesn't. Up and down the stairs we go. I got TONS of exercise but I am still so sore. The weather was cool and it was cloudy so we weren't drenched with sweat or anything. Then the rain came. It poured and then drizzled and then poured and it did this all day and all night. The movers finally called and said they were on their way and then asked HOW DO YOU GET THERE? Hello! You are movers. You should know how to get to places to move people. Anyway....we gave them the directions and they said they would be there in 20 minutes. It's raining even harder now and I'm like great. All our stuff is going to get wet in the rain. If they had came between 7 - 9 it would have been fine. Nice and sunny. Almost an hour goes by...no movers. My roommate calls and no answer. They finally call back and said, " I lost your paperwork. Let me call you back. " He doesn't call back. My roommate calls the movers again and talks to the original lady he talked to and really, really let her have it. It's now like 5 p.m. and we weren't moved. She says, " There was a problem with the truck and they couldn't get another one. " He just called from the truck and said he lose our paperwork! ! ! ? ? ? Another 2 hours go by and still no help and no movers. We finally called our new apartments to see if they could help. They set us up with different movers who could come the next day at 8 a.m. for 40.00 cheaper. We said fine. Do it. THEN the other movers FINALLY call back and they say the same thing. We decided NOT to go with them because they were NOT reliable. That company ALL AMERICAN MOVERS (don't ever use them) will be hearing from us! It's now around 9 p.m. and we had both been up for over 24 hours (no time to sleep) and hadn't eaten all day and we were still not moved. We are now forced to pay for an extra day at our old apartments. We went to get something to eat and pick up Jordan and get a few things from the store. By this point we are pretty much in a fog and it's getting late. Jordan checked out the new place and then we headed back to the old place to get some sleep. I had to be up at 7:00 a.m. to take Jordan to the vet for knee surgery. My roommate had to be up for the movers who would be there right at 8 they said. Jordan had right patella repair. He knee cap keeps popping out of place. On the way to take her for her surgery, now after 8 a.m. I call my roommate to see if the movers showed up yet. They were supposed to be there at 8 for sure. It's now 8:35. No movers. Ugh! To be continued......
