Guest guest
Hey guys, Forgive me for posting so much about the camp thing this summer but I am hoping that maybe someone else will learn a little from my struggles. Anyway We, the hubby and I took the kids to Dream Street Camp in The Hills of Laguna. They were supposed to ride the bus down. We drove to children's hospital from our house 2 hours so they could catch the bus. Well, unfortunately there was a confusion and they sent to limo Vans instead. They didn't have enough room for all the kids and luggage so we decided we would just drive our three and the rest of the luggage of the other kids to camp. Poor he was a little disappointed. He wanted to ride in the " limo. " Oh well. It was a van really with limo written on the side! LOL but you know! Anyway we get down there, and I was shocked!!!! These kids are not staying in cabins, nook! They are at a full blown resort!!!!!! NO joke!!! I wanted to stay. Hotel rooms air-conditioned, one counselor for every 2 kids! Kira was in heaven! Now mind you they loved and I mean loved MDA camp! But this type of camp is right up Kira and Krisalynns alley! Hot showers! LOL. You name it they had it for the kids from food to toys to video alley they called it where there are video game machines set up and they can play to their hearts content and don't need any quarters! That blew away! LOL They had food galore from popcorn to cotton candy machines to hot-dogs snow cones all for whenever they want all week long. There were baskets of every type of candy imaginable for them at their will to take. They have a pool and horse back riding and a lake they can go out in a boat on apparently but I didn't see any boats. The best thing is they have a full triage center, Nine hospital beds set up with curtains around them to create a private pod, a full crash cart, A full range of medicine that you would find in any ER room, and nebulizers pulse ox machines, each " cabin " which is two hotel rooms so about 8 kids, is assigned their own nurse, she sleeps in the room with the kids as well as their regular counselors. and there is one doctor to 3 cabins. I met with the kids doctor who had taken the time to read up on Mito because he had never heard of it. He pulled out articles from the UMDF site and asked me questions he had about my kids specifically. I almost fell over!!!!! He is a cancer specialist. When he took ' blood pressure, it was high 140/90 so he asked permission to call DR Boles and see if he wanted him to do anything with about it. I wanted to hug the man. Everyone there is a volunteer as well. He told me not to worry they would take good care of the kids both mentally and medically. Of course because I was now a 2nd time Mom at the camp thing and my hubby came with me I was miss braveheart in the flesh! I didn't even cry this time! Ya HOO!!!! My kids were glad when we finally left though! Lol. I slept like a baby last night! I almost feel a bit guilty! LOL Anyway I will let you all know what the kids think when they get back next Sunday. When we left Kira was helping to deck her room out in Hawaiian decorations as the theme is something like Maui Wowie in the sun or something like that! They all will have decorated theme rooms. The best part was Krissy didn't cry this time either! Anyway thanks for letting me share! big hugs to you, O When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we spend so much time looking at the closed door, we don't see the open door. Look for the open doors!
