Guest guest
My neurologist is considering starting me on prednisone 60 mg daily. Has anyone had experience with this medication being used to treat MSA. I'm affraid of of side effects as my legs swelling up or worse. Guest guest
Greetings! I seriously doubt how effective prednisone would be for MSA. There is not inflammation or infection with MSA. There is no overactive immune system. In effect, it would improve how you feel for a very short time, then suddenly cause a serious let down. And have all the side effects. Leg swelling would be a significant trouble, since it may only complicate existing problems with blood pressure regulation. (Several MSA patients here - myself included - already have problems with leg swelling). Just my thoughts. Regards, =jbf= B. Fisher
Guest guest
Thanks for your thoughts, J.B. Fisher. I appreciate knowledge from some one with experience. In my readings and conversations with doctors, I originally, believed that MSA was possibly caused by either: exposure to toxic chemicals, some kind of infection (one doctor thought it was a long term candadiasis infection), hereditary, or auto immune . I have not been exposed to any toxic substances and the last study I read found no history of MSA in patients with the disease. That leaves auto imune or infection at this time. I did have a high fever for a few days about a year before I started presenting systems. The most recent neurologist that I'm seeing told me that the tests show some inflamatory process going on in my body. This may not be related to MSA. I also recently heard that the Non steroidal anti inflamatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen , Voltaren, Naprosyn prevent or slow down the advancing symptoms of Alzheimers. If you have knowledge of anything working let me know, Monika
