The important thing to do is have regular blood tests for your child thru the regular check ups with her doctor as he/she grows up. If it is not the same doctor you have, make sure they know you have diabetes. Maybe read some material about childhood diabetes and symptoms so you would know if you suspected anything and also how to avoid problems in the future. Other than that if your child eats properly and has plenty of exercise they can probably avoid it in the future. Your dr can go over family medical history and tell you the risk factors for your child specifically. There are various stages to diabetes and even insulin resistance and it progresses differently in different people so it is kind of hard to say one thing fits all. Definitely read all you can and talk to the family dr.
Guest guest
Hi Eunice I'm not on meds either and my fasting sugars fluctuate from 104 - 120 and my two hour numbers are always around 130 - 140 (unless I've been bad). How do you get your numbers so low with no meds? I try to eat a maximum of 25 carbs in a meal and I rarely snack. Pre-meal levels are often much lower than my fasting numbers - around 90. My numbers are much higher in the evening than during the morning and afternoon. I'd like to get better control. I wish I could find something that works consistently. My husband and my doctor both say I'm obsessing too much so not much support there. Hugs, Virginia
