For : Thanks so much for your helpful input! Brava to you for

having been able to stay away from abx most of the time. I know

that can be a challlenge.

Sounds like you and I are on the same wavelengths and your

points are well taken. Among other things, I'm on regular

maintenance doses of Ester-

C (the alkaline form of vitamin C) , zinc, garlic, acidophilus, and

also manganese, which, for me, seems to make a big difference

in supporting immune system function .

For Di: One word of caution for Di, from both reading, personal

experience, and that of other naturally oriented Lyme patients.

Though echinacea is often very helpful for immune function in

most people, it can be CONTRA-INDICATED for Lyme patients

because it tends to stimulate the immune system, rather than

simply support it. I have read that many Lyme patients actually

have hyper- immune system function, which is thought to be one

possible cause of " Lyme arthritis " . I don't know about Golden

Seal function for other Lymies, but would also approach with

caution, as it also caused problems for me.

Best Wishes,

Anita

Didnt know that about echinacea and lyme disease. Thanks for the tip!

I forgot that I take acidophilus or eat yogurt periodically, but mainly it

is my daughter that takes it, because she had several rounds of antibiotics

several years ago for an abcessed tooth, and it really did a number on her

stomach. She STILL has issues and that was like six years to eight years

ago! I havent tried manganese. I may have to research it, and try it.

Goldenseal btw works as a natural antibiotic. Since you had problems with

it, it is probably because you have a problem with antibiotics period.

Aloe works as an antioxidant and also lowers acid levels in the body. I

craved it while pregnant with my last one, and helped several aloe plants

meet their demise . (I eat the clear part only, particularly in the

younger leaves of the plant, as the green part is known to cause diarrhea

sometimes). I dont know if you have a problem with lactic acid or not. A

lot of us tend to be acidic. Sometimes very! Nowadays btw, I just take

the aloe capsules you can buy in the store. Not as effective, but easier to

keep on hand than the amount of aloe vera plants I would need to consume!
