True, no one under one should be given honey, but the mom bfing the child under one can eat honey and the laxative effect will go to the child via the bm w/o the potential botulism risk associated with the child actually eating it. I didnt read the original post but its is not a potential for allergies. Its a potential for botulism. Infant botulism is caused by eating spores of the botulinum bacterium, and one source of the spores is honey. The spores grow in the intestines and release a toxin. This is extremely serious and usually results in hospitalization/NICU. Kathleen, I feel the chapter "should" buy it. Just explain to them that to get started you purchased it with the idea that you would get reimbursed for it when the chapter could afford it. That way we don't have so much to carry around. The weight recorder & the leader are the only ones that have a key to the cabinet. I'm excited about the prospect of getting a new digital scale - - wish we had gotten it before the first weighin of the year, but we'll manage; the TOPS rules make allowances for the change over, so it will work out okay, I hope!! Some of the residents didn't like having it in the room where they played cards and had the maintenance men move it. We had our Weight Watchers digital scale in there with no padded case. The men moved the filing cabinet around several times WITHOUT our permission. Evidently they moved it kind of roughly. Each time it was moved I told the director of the facility that we have an overhead projector and a digital scale in there and asked that we be notified if the cabinet needed to be moved and that I'd come in to move it. She never called us. In one of those moves, a " foot " came off the bottom of the scale. We had to keep putting it back on everytime we used it. Eventually it became undependable and that's when I bought the Health-O-Meter myself and I take it back and forth with me every week.
