Guest guest
I am still waiting for my test results and will have more blood drawn tomorrow. But, what do you all do when you get sick--with a virus or bacterial infection? Right now, I am very intolerant of most medicines due to being overdosed with high antibotics for lyme disease treatment. It is as though my body just " quit. " Thank you for the kind responses to my adult mitochondial question. Di
Guest guest
Di I find it easier to prevent infections if at all possible. When I do get a viral infection, I take the time to rest as much as possible, keep any fever down with Aleve or Motrin and let myself get better. I also up my CoQ10 and Vit C. This does mean I miss work when others might go, but my health is important. If I get an infection that I think might be bacterial, I get to the doctor as soon as possible and get an antibiotic. It would be hard if you have trouble with antibiotics. My older son is allergic to all antibiotics. Rotating them so he only get a one kind every year or two has helped. He has had to take prednisone with some of the antibiotics. I hope you get some answers soon. laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Wed, 14 Jul 2004 16:59:36 -0000 > To: > Subject: What do you do if you have a virus or bacterial infection? > > I am still waiting for my test results and will have more blood > drawn tomorrow. Guest guest
REST! I also up my coenzymeq10. It isnt uncommon for the lot of us to crash during infections. Heck, it isnt uncommon for us to crash period! A crash btw, is when you are tired, drained, worn out, and dont feel like doing anything. We often dont function up to par in several areas, such as memory, thinking things through logically, physically, such as in ability to walk, etc. or maybe our breathing or heart or kidneys or something acts up. Blood sugars go out of whack, too. My mother does that one (type 1 diabetic). Our bodies just dont function like they should in a crash. The overwhelming symptom for me, tho, is fatigue I just cant shake. > I am still waiting for my test results and will have more blood > drawn tomorrow. Guest guest
Hi Di, I am also intolerant of medicines, too. For bacterial infections I use LOTS of garlic (or the non-smelling sociable kind in capsules if I'm going to be around people-Kyolic formula 103....yeast and dairy free), Ester -C (the non- acidic form of vitamin C) and sometimes Tea Tree oil and grapefruit seed extract (ParaMicrocidin) . For viral, large doses of Ester-C. Best Wishes, Anita (another Lymie) > I am still waiting for my test results and will have more blood > drawn tomorrow. Guest guest
Anita, garlic can help with viral and fungal infections as well. I take echinacea and goldenseal and aloe vera on top of the garlic and vitamin c myself. I also take zinc and selenium fairly regularly to boost my immune system (also boosts the thyroid!) One warning about garlic tho, it can thin your blood so if you have a problem that way, or are near the period part of your cycle, garlic should be cut down on. Have you tried any of those others? Echinacea shouldnt be taken every day, but only for periods of time you are fighting an infection, or just exposed to some major virus or something. Same with goldenseal. I try to limit to 2 weeks on it at any given time. Mind you, we are all different, and some of us may have allergies, etc. the others dont, or the doctor may say they are contraindicated in your case, so these may not be good for you, but they work for me. I have only had to be on antibiotics twice in the last several years now, and one of those was after a cat bite when I tried to break up a fight. The other a sinus infection that got really bad. > Hi Di, I am also intolerant of medicines, too.
