She is still weak as can be but they removed the PIC tube, so they are convinced that all infection is gone. She can not help with transfers and is barely audible. I'm sure that has to be a happy occasion for her. On the other hand, I know how hard it will be for you as primary caretaker with her very limited ability to help you. Bill has some days that I can hardly get him onto his feet for the necessary transfers and those days I tell him he feels like he weighs 400 lb.! I know the time is coming when he can no longer help and I am dreading that time. I recll you have some home health care, but there are the times when you are alone that help is needed with bathroom needs, etc. Just know that my thoughts and prayers are with you both during these difficult times. She can not help with transfers at all or even with rolling over in bed. I also had it lucky for the last three years, as she was always able to let me know and get to the porta potty in most cases. The BM's were solid and she was easy to clean up. However, between the antibiotics and the Jevity supplement, she has had two BM's since she came home, I may need the nursing home soon ) I have not been able to find a decent Hoyer lift sling to hold her up by the chest, so I may have to design one and get it custom made. The potty slings do not allow you to clean the bottom well. It does not help that she has the PEG tube which is always in the way. Of course the dog is happy to see everyone home (we spent a ;ot of time at the hospital/rehab center, so the dog was alone). So the dog is underfoot also. In fact when I got the diaper with the BM off last night, I tripped over the dog and the BM ended up on the brand new carpet in the bedroom. Note for people with carpet in the bedroom, commercial grade carpet with jute (not plush) padding does handle wheelchairs and Hoyer lifts well. I'll let you know about cleaning spots later today ) I knew we should have bought brown instead of grey carpet ) I have increased the help hours to 12 per week and have a nurse coming this afternoon about more help. I may have to consider Hospice also. One thing we have found that helps in cleaning is to get him in the shower standing or in a chair, use a shower massage and clean the area gently. This might not pass muster of the health department, but it all goes the same place. It has saved hours of work and probaly helped protect his skin as well. Of course we do lots of scrubbing in that shower. My husband weighs 245 lbs and requires lots of assistance. He wears the largest " diaper " pad available. This helps prevent damaging furniture or chairs. I do hope it goes well for both of you. You have been a strength for many of us. I hope we can support you now. I hope she regains some movement too. I'm sure you will have her doing all the exercises that she can. I don't have time to even read all the posts now, I'm sure you understand. but I try to at least know what the main topics being discussed are....as long as everyone is " honest " with their subject lines ... I see there is some talk of who the " old timers " are. Sounds like several of us must have " got together " about the same time but I assumed that all the rest of you had been together for a long time...Just seemed to know and care about each other too much to be new !!!! I appreciate you all very much. It was rough at first dealing with a condition that no one had ever heard of, including the doctors!
