Guest guest
I have received an order for blood work from Dr. Korson in Boston that one of my doctors will run. However, my appt. with Dr. Korson is not until November and I have been very ill for a while. It was suggested by a local mito support group to also see Dr. Penny Greenstein, but I have heard conflicting reports on visits with her. Does anyone see either of these doctors, and should I wait until I see Dr. Korson, since he seems to be one of the best? My other doctor is alternative, but has mito patients in his practice. I just don't want to see yet another doctor and get brushed off. Di
Guest guest
Di Sorry but I don't know of Dr. Greenstein, but certainly have heard good things about Dr. Korson. I haven't seen him, just heard good things. Are you taking the Carnitor and CoQ10? That might help you feel better while waiting. You would need to run this by one of your local doctors first. laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Sat, 10 Jul 2004 10:36:36 -0000 > To: > Subject: Question about doctors > > I have received an order for blood work from Dr. Korson in Boston that > one of my doctors will run. He is definitely worth the wait. He actually suggested Dr Greenstein to me if I needed a neurologist. I have never seen her, but they work together when it comes to mito patients and he has a good working relationship with her. She looks at things from the neurology perspective and he looks at them from the metabolics perspective. It might be worth seeing her in addition to Dr K, but I would definitely still keep the appt. with him too. Malisa
Guest guest
If you are very sick and are concerned about waiting until November, could you get on a waiting list? It depends on how quick you could get there too, so if you don't have a car or live 3 hours away, a waiting list might not work. I'd probably go to see both Dr. Greenstein and Dr. Korson, keep the November appointment no matter what. That is, if you could see Dr. Greenstein a lot earlier. I used to see five doctors on a regular basis, now I just see my PCP and my MDA neurologist regulary. Remember, if a doctor doesn't believe you or you don't like them, never go again. You don't have to put up with a bad doctor by listening to them or going to them again, but waiting 5 months to see a good doctor might be unwise. Remember that you could get cancelled at the last minute too, I was cancelled a month before my semi-annual appointment, and had to reschedule for 3 months later. So I think you might want to see the other doctor too. Make sure to make 2 copies of your medical records, one for the first doctor and one for Dr. Korson's office. A last thought is that if you are having symptoms that might be related to something other than neurology, perhaps you could go see a different specialist. Like a cardiologist if you are having a racing heartbeat as part of your mito symptoms. Then at least you could get some testing done while you are waiting to see Dr. Korson.
