Guest guest
Hi Anne. I'm a H cup so I started out breastfeeding the same way (also called the football hold.) That's the only way I could comfortably nurse. It took me almost 4 months to make the transition comfortably from the football hold to the traditional/cradle hold. I worked with a LC to make the transition to the cradle hold and she had my holding my son with his head in the crook of my arm. My arms aren't long enough and my boobs are just too big to have his head there. Once I figured that out, it became much easier. Now his head rests on my forearm about an inch or two from my wrists. I started out by using a Boppy or the My Breast Friend pillow (depending on whether I was upstairs or downstairs.) When I first started with the traditional hold, I only nursed that way once a day. I had a hard time with nipple soreness, too. Are you holding on to your breast with one of your hands? I had to. That's the only way I could keep it from slipping. Even the slightest amount of slipping can cause major soreness. I was slowly able to stop using my hand as a boob sling! I stopped using a nursing pillow around 5 months because my son was large enough and my boobs hung low enough that he could lay in my lap and reach comfortably. Hope this helps! Mom to 3/15/00 Visit 's Web Site: http://members.aol.com/Bork ____________ Hi my name is Anne Searles and I am a SAHM to Roman , born on 12/10/00. As I am a J cup I was shown how to BF in the " clutch hold " at the hospital. This has worked really well, but isn't convenient for public nursing. I saw a LC yesterday and she helped me get set up with the traditional hold. Now that I am doing this at home, my nipples are getting SOOOO sore. I've checked Roman's latch on and it's just fine. Could this be because of the new position? The LC did have me using a nursing pillow and I'm not currently using one. Would this make such a significant difference? TIA, Anne
Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestions. , I'm doing about the same thing. Only using the cradle hold once a day for the same reasons. I am putting a rolled up burping cloth under my boob so I don't have to use my hand. I am using just a regular pillow to help me out. It's nice to hear that this can take a while and to not stress. Thank you all soooooo much. Dh and I are attending a meeting for his work in Vegas at the end of February. We're of course bringing the baby and someone to watch him while we are at the dinners and I get a massage (mmmmm!) The LC suggested I start expressing my milk now and start introducing him to the bottle. I am using the Avent system. I've just been able to express successfully these last two days and so far I haven't gotten an ounce yet. Is this acceptable for this soon in expressing? I am expressing in the morning after Roman has been fed. TIA, Anne RE: QuestionHi Anne. I'm a H cup so I started out breastfeeding the same way (also called thefootball hold.) Guest guest
Anne, You'll have more luck expressing before you nurse Roman--especially because you can relieve engorgement feelings and prevent leaks. No problem to express at this point. You will need to freeze the milk. Be sure to chill (refrig) fresh milk before putting it on frozen milk. Shoot for three ounce bottles. Guest guest
Glad I could help! Do you host the holidays? I would like to know what everyone will be serving if you don't mind posting it! We have the following for 25-28 people Turkey Ham Stuffing Mashed potatoes Sweet potatoes (whipped and baked) Green beans Asparagus Salad Cranberry sauce Rolls I also serve three appetizers and lots of dessert! Re: Tips for the holidays Did you say " fun " ? I don't think you have ever met my in-laws! LOL If we do have it here, I know everything will be fine. I have a tendency to stress out over these things! - In wwliterside@y..., " RW " wrote: > OMG!!!! Thanksgiving at your house! What fun!!! You know how to cook healthier, just apply that knowledge to your regular foods. That is what I do all the time now. Things that you can't or don't want to change, adjust the portion size so you get a taste and not a whole serving. YOU CAN DO IT!!!! YOU WILL BE FINE!!!! > > Maureen > >
Guest guest
We'll be hosting 7-9 people and will be having: Turkey Dressing Gravy Cranberry sauce Mashed potatoes Green beans Broccoli w/cheese sauce Caramel apple salad Relish tray Rolls and....... Pumpkin pie! I'll be making everything WW fashion but will NOT tell! I have told my in-laws when I make something low-fat and they always say " Oh, I thought it tasted different " . If I don't tell, they always brag on what a good cook I am! People are so funny about " diet food " ! LOL Anyway, I have taken 's suggestion and made a list of what things need to be done and will ask MIL to make the relish tray and ask SIL to bring the rolls and cranberry sauce. > > OMG!!!! Guest guest
Sounds like you have everything under control! And you are so right, some people cringe at the word low fat!
