Pulmonary Function Tests Results/ Need Some Help Please

Hi Everyone!!

Hope you all had a wonderful and enjoyable 4th of July and were able to share

the day with good friends and family.

I had a PFTdone awhile ago and got the results, but i am not sure what they mean

and thought maybe you guys could help me with the results.

I understand that you are not Doctors, just asking for your input and your what

you think.

Okay here it goes:

Spirometry--Spirometry is within NORMAL Predicted Limits.

Lung Volumes- The Percent predicted TLC is 110%, FRC is 116%, and RV is 125%.

*** This suggests Pulmonary OVERINFLATION.

What is Pulmonary Overinflation? ( I think I know what it is, but would like to

be more clear on it)

Diffusion- The Percent Predicted DLco is 69%, which suggests Mild REDUCTION in

DIFFUSING CAPACITY.

If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I don't know much about these. My older son did have the over-inflation

after several years of exercises to increase volume for his asthma and then

playing the tuba throughout high school. For him, the doctor was pleased, as

it improved his asthma which had been getting increasingly worse before this

time.

Diffusion is the cross-over of oxygen into the blood stream to the best of

my memory.

I do know that any one abnormal result is weighed against the other results

to determine if it is of concern. Only a doc can do this.

My results for respiratory function were all 100 - 110%. My thinking

is that my body is compensating for the mitochondrial disease by

increasing the lung capacity and function. I don't have any thoughts

on the other numbers.

I wonder if some of us normally operate above capacity that this

causes lung fatigue.

The technician was shocked that the numbers were so high.

Almost all of my pulmonary function tests were normal except the air

exchange. Was that tested on you?
