Guest guest
Thanks, Janie. Not surprising, but shocking all the same. I can honestly say that the last couple of doctors I've seen (2 in 10yrs due to lack of insurance and money to pay dr bills) have both been incredibly arrogant---like the ones mentioned. The last one took one look at my TSH and stated " Your TSH isn't high enough to cause all those symptoms. We're going to address then one by one. " I swear I saw dollar signs in his eyes that day, while I was in that room for an hour and having only seen him maybe 3min at the most during that time. This doctor ignored my vital signs that day, or I wouldn't have had to TELL him that the nurse said my temperature was 65.5. The nurse wasn't any better. She asked me if I'd drank ice-water before coming into the office! I told her no, then added that even if I had by the time my temperature was taken (20 or so minutes after I arrived at the clinic) it wouldn't have mattered. I also reminded her that it was July in Florida. Even she didn't take any note that I was shivering so much that I couldn't talk right... and I was wearing a flannel shirt over another shirt (it was over 90 outside with nearly 100% humidity). For that matter, neither did the doctor. That day I decided I was going to have to take matters into my own hands. The visit cost me nearly $200, $200 that I couldn't afford, and I certainly couldn't afford nearly $200/wk to keep coming back so this fool could 'investigate' ALL of the symptoms I was having. This doctor barely looked at me while I talked, and I left wondering a bit if he could even describe what I looked like had someone asked him within a few minutes of my leaving. I never rescheduled to come back as he'd told me. No one ever called to find out why. Scary article, Janie. But no truer words spoken.
