Guest guest
Hi I saw an ad. for a new ramp system. It is like an accordian and is mounted in the sliding doorway of any full size or mini van. It does mean pulling it our and folding it back up, but for those of you who have someone who can do this and a limited income, I thought it might be an option. The web site is: versaramp.com laurie
Guest guest
I've seen this too Laurie and it looks wonderful. Also in the MDA Magazine they have a small piece about the Ultralite 550 scooter which folds up electronically and can be used asn an electric walker. I have inquired about this and it seems to be the ideal solution for someone who needs a scooter and doesn't have a van. They also have a 355 model that is less expensive with not as many perks but equally as good as far as I can see. These scooters are made by Rascal which we all know makes an excellent product. I actually contacted Elecric Mobility about these. If anyone is interested go to http://www.ultralite.biz Alice
Guest guest
Yes.. I know about the insurance issue and the weight requirements are important. These that I shared with you are metal not plastic which many of the lightweights are. I agree, they do seem to be good for traveling. Guest guest
Alice One caution about the light-weight scooters, make sure your insurance will pay for them (many won't) and check on the weight restrictions. They would also be wonderful for traveling. laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Wed, 30 Jun 2004 20:21:32 GMT > To: > Subject: Re: ramp for vans > > > I've seen this too Laurie and it looks wonderful. Guest guest
Alice, I actually have one of these Auto Go scooters by Rascal. It is great for people who don't have a van. It takes a little bit of practice to auto fold but it's not hard and you can actually power walk it also. I actually purchased the Auto rack that can be used with a Class I or II trailer hitch. I got it because I wanted to still be able to use my car and didn't have the money now to purchase a van for transportation of a powerchair. It had worked out great so far. " justagram@... Guest guest
I am not sure the brand, but I actually talked with an older gentleman a couple of days ago in the parking lot of the grocery store. He had a scooter, a fairly big one because of his size, but he had a hook of some kind in the back of his regular chevy caravan that picked it up and put it in the back of the van. He had taken the very back seat out. He said the scooter itself was not that heavy, he also said that the company made some sort of lift that went on a trailer hitch. Unfortuntely, as we were talking an elderly woman who was parked a couple of spots down started to back out and hit a gentleman and he fell to the ground. He was ok and a lot of people yelling at her to stop made her stop. I was closest to the store so while some others helped him up I went inside to get them to call the police and medical help. Anyway, the scooter and the lift looked very nice. I do not need one yet, but I like the idea of a way to get it into a regular size van. Guest guest
Janet I had the same system in my last van. The one I had was made by Bruno and was called a curbsider, since it swung far enough to put it on the sidewalk if there were no curb cuts. They make a manual version and a power version. has one for her powerchair. laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Thu, 1 Jul 2004 18:46:40 -0500 > To: > > Subject: Re: ramp for vans > > I am not sure the brand, but I actually talked with an older gentleman a > couple of days ago in the parking lot of the grocery store. Guest guest
Thanks for the info Laurie. I do not need one yet but am keeping all these emails for the future. At least I will have some ideas what to look for. Janet Re: ramp for vans > > > > > >> > >> I've seen this too Laurie and it looks wonderful.
