Guest guest
Not a problem at all. I would take a train form Killeen to Colorado to spend times with friends- pack a bag full of goodies, and enjoy! It's just long... I love to fly but it was a matter of "experience" Enjoy!! ~*~~*~TOPS Club, Inc.

Guest guest
, I do a volunteer thing called Trails and Rails. It is an onboard guided tour of the area you are traveling through. I do from San , where I live, to Ft. Worth. I love riding the train. If you have the time it takes it can be a wonderful experience. Aside from delays, not alot can go wrong. The derailments are usually caused by STUPID people. In the 4 years I have been doing this, we have never had a terrible thing happen like that. The food from the dining cars is resturant quality and priced. You can go by coach or get a compartment. The seats are larger than a bus and you have again the space around your feet. And you can get up and walk around. All the restrooms are on the lower deck. They show movies too in the lounge car, and you can take your own icechest on board. If you have any other questions I can try to answer them. Aggie Yahoo! Photos Ring in the New Year with Photo Calendars. Add photos, events, holidays, whatever. Yup, we traveled by train all the time in Germany... long distances and even short trips. If I missed the bus to school when I was in high school, I'd just walk down to the Bahnhof (train station) and take a train. (I lived in one city, but went to school in another). I used to love taking long trips on trains that had sleeper cars. Once, when I was 16, I traveled to Berlin by train with my softball team for a tournament. That was when Berlin was still a divided city, separated by the wall. We had to travel through East Germany to get there, and there were East German soldiers/armed guards at every stop. They'd get on the train and walk through checking our passports. Kinda scary. One of my friends who went along with us was stupid enough to flip off one of the guards that was standing on the tracks. They came and got him and we spent about an hour at that stop while they questioned/harassed him. That 6'+, 18 year old jock was in tears when they finally let him get back on the train. I've never traveled by Amtrak here in the states, but I'll bet the scenery would be much prettier than if you traveled by airplane. hugs, Janet
Guest guest
Thanks Janet! And yes I would LOVE to see more of the country by riding a train. I've barely been out of Texas. I don't think I've ever been on a train other than at Astroworld! LOL! Re: Trains (off topic) >>> wrote:Anyone ever ridden a train long distance before? Okay, now THAT would scare me! Even Jeep had to stop making vehicles with a high-center of gravity, due to roll-overs. Last time I ever traveled by train was in Germany in the mid-80's. I don't recall any double-deckers over there, but I guess they probably have them by now, too. Aggie, the Trails and Rails tour that you do sounds fun. How long does it take to get from San to Ft. Worth by train? I think the nearest train station to us is in Temple, between Austin and Waco. hugs, Janet
Guest guest
WOW! Thanks Aggie! It sounds great. My mom thinks I'm crazy but hey....I wanna travel and I want to see places like New York and since I'm a wimp and won't fly unless I have too....a train it is! LOL! Who knows....maybe I'll leave 2 days before my friend and he and his mother can meet me at the train station in New York and we could go from there. Then I could ride home on the train and they can fly. I would be alone and it would probably be boring but to see New York and to see the US it might just be worth it! Guest guest
LOL Janet! Nope......that didn't make me worry. My mom said she's scared to go on a train too! I am scared to fly but not worried about a train. I have wanted to go on a train ride ever since I saw Harry Potter! They always ride a train to Hogwarts at the beginning and it looks like fun. Of course there will be no magic and no wizards on my train....I hope! I would also like to go on a cruise. Mom...are you scared of boats? LOL! No icebergs near us right??? Guest guest
On a good run it is scheduled to leave SA at 8 am arrive in FtW @52 pm so that is 7 hrs. We do stop in Temple. If you/ve not seen the Temple station, it is beautiful. I wish we could stop there longer. It has a lovely play park and antique train cars. Aggie Yahoo! Photos Got holiday prints? There is a wonderful museum on the second floor of the station.. and you can get on several of the old train cars outside. hugs, janet
Guest guest
Been off here for a long time but I seen this emails and others about trains and I just wanted to ask....id there a train still in Houston? My husband has never ridden a train except the one that runs around town in Atlanta, Georgia. He has also never ridden a bus except the bus in Atlanta, Georgia. I have ridden one train in my life time and it was when I was in the 2nd grade and the whole trip was 30 minutes long and I thought I was in heaven. I can still remember taht ride. I would love to take a train trip. If anyone has any information or knows how I would go about getting inforamtionabout trains here I would appreciate that. Thanks and love pepper Welcome back Pepper. No one should miss the old train ride originating in Durango, Co. it goes way up into the mountains. I took that one many years ago with my oldest son and his daughter who was then nine. We enjoyed it so much. Betty

I think we walked the entire train and then sit for a while and then walk it again. My sister, daughter and mother did a trip about 16 years ago on the train. I forgot what it was called but was a plan they had. They went from Houston to lancaster, Pa got off the train for 2 weeks , got back on and then went to boston where they stayed another week touring the area, then got back on and went to Niagara falls where they spent a couple of days. I know they were sure tired of trains when they got back home. I would love to ride a train again. I am like you, I didn't use to be afraid of flying but now I think I want to stay on the ground. wrote: , my dad use to work for the Santa Fe and we traveled by train all the time. Now the trains go a lot faster and I don't know about the dinner or the dome car think it would still be fun. Hope you get to go. Would love to see New York some day. Love Buzz! Buzz! What's the catch? How is it riding on a train? I am scared to fly and yes I know the whole YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO GET IN AN ACCIDENT ON THE ROAD THAN IN THE AIR thing but I'm still scared to fly and it's not because of terrorists. In a car you don't know the crash is going to happen and BAM you crash. In a plane most of the time you have time to know I'M GONNA CRASH, I'M GONNA CRASH, I'M GONNA DIE! That's not for me! LOL! I don't want to crash! Anyway.....I am scared to fly and would LOVE to visit New York and I would love to travel by train. That would be fun! A long ride yes but fun. I want to hear some experiences. My friend graduates in May and his mom is taking him to New York and she wanted to see if I could go. I would love to but they are flying and I'm a wimp and don't want to fly so I guess I will pass. Probably couldn't afford it by May anyways. But my friend IS willing to take a train trip with me to New York to check it out one of these days. I would do that! That might be fun. I'll have to find a TOPS member who lives in New York that I could stay with to save hotel cost! LOL! You know someone would take a fellow TOPS member in! Or I could take the train to Connecticut and get one of my relatives to take me and my friend to New York. Think Aunt Gladys would do that mom? We not only took the train but did the road trip the next day and went further than the train stop. We went in June the year we went. There was a lot of snow, have pictures of it.
