Guest guest
I had an interesting day today that I thought I'd share it with you. I called the Senior Affairs program here in Albuquerque last week to see if there were any services I could take advantage of. They asked what I was dealing with and I told them. This prompted them to send a case worker out who visited me this AM. She did an evaluation of my needs and when she left, I was stunned with all she has offered to provide. First - They are going to do some work inside and out of the house. Inside, they are going to put railings in areas that I need to help me with balance if I am on my feet. They are going to put shut off valves in my two bathrooms so that I can shut off the water when the toilet runs. I have a problem with the toilet running and I can't hear it. Sometimes,I have no idea it's running so it could be running for a long time which wastes water here and that is a bad thing. They will update my toilet fixtures. They are also going to put my good hand held shower head (brought from RI) up in the walk in shower and move the other shower head into the other bathroom with the tub so that I can use that bathroom when needed. They are going to fix my laundry area which is seriously needed. They are going to send in a homemaker once a week to do house chores, including laundry, and who will also go to the store for groceries if I need her to. They are going to work on my outside to make it so that Stella can't jump over any barriers to get out of the yard. She did last week and a poor man with a walker was walking down the street with his two little dogs. The walker went flying but thank goodness the man didn't. I can't take her to the back yard anymore and stay with her so I thought I had to give her up. It looks like I don't have to do this now. They are going to put in railings and grab bars on the back stairs and out to the back yard from the front stairs. They will also put lighting in my back yard so that I don't have total darkness when I go to the back with her at night. When I'm in darkness, because of the deafness, my equilibrium is much, much worse and there's no way to put a ramp out to the back yard. They will bring me 7 nutritious meals each week. Monday - Friday will be hot meals and on Friday they will bring me two extra meals that can be eaten over the weekend. They are going to set me up with an attorney to help me take care of some legal things that I need to do, including a will. I have already used there van sevice which is much better than the public disability service here. This service will still be available to me. Now..the big thing. How much does all this cost? I am asked to give a donation of what I can afford. How can you beat that? Tomorrow is a day I need all of your good thoughts and prayers. I'm going in to see if the right side implant can be mapped. In my opinion, I think only a miracle will allow this but maybe if all of you are thinking good thoughts in my behalf, I just might get that miracle. Guest guest
Alice, It sounds like being a " senior " is going to give you a lot of much needed help. I'm so glad to hear you will be getting this help and can even keep Stella. I know the thought of having to maybe give her up was a very difficult thing for you. You know my friend that you will be in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow and in the coming days. Hopefully the good things that happened today will continue for the mapping tomorrow. Love, (Christie too, even though she is at MDA camp right now) I know she would also want to send her love to you! Guest guest
Alice Good thoughts and lots of hugs will be with you tomorrow. I'm holding your hand long distance. My folks took advantage of similar services in Michigan. I plan to contact them once I retire. They came in and helped my mom with a shower each week. I am so glad you called them and got these services. It will allow you to keep Stella and be on your own. That is great. laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Tue, 29 Jun 2004 00:57:04 -0000 > To: > Subject: Today and Tomorrow Too > > I had an interesting day today that I thought I'd share it with you. > > I called the Senior Affairs program here in Albuquerque last week to > see if there were any services I could take advantage of.
