Guest guest
OMG!!! I can't believe that a teacher would have an assignment to write to Ben Laden!!!! When this happed all of our kids wrote to the people that were effected, especially the children that lost their parents or their parents were injured. They actually adopted a school that was nearby, Immaculate Conception Catholic School (same name as theirs) and the two groups of school kids would send notes back and forth about how they were doing. We would always read them to make sure they were acceptable and they always were! They didn't discuss their hatred or anger for the people, just that the Lord would watch over them, keep them safe, and that HE would decide what should happen to " those " people. They were told at masses that the Lord LOVES them no matter what and that even though " those " people did terrible things and fell from the grace of God, he still loved them. I think this has had a great healing affect on all the kids, they didn't hold hatred in their hearts and they placed the punishment of " those " people in the hands of the Lord! Sorry if this offends anyone!! It is not meant to, it is the way our school has helped the children deal with the terror of one year ago. I really think that this has helped us all to go on! Maureen Question of the Day~9.11~ Where were you and how did you hear about the attacks last year? My Answer: My friend Kathy called and said " turn on CNN " Bob and I saw the first tower in flames and watched in horror as the 2nd plane crashed into Tower 2. My family has prayed for the people lost and especially the loved ones left behind everyday for the past year. This act of terror has affected the world and probably the lives of each of us. I know that I don't take anything for granted and all I want is to love and be loved. My grand daughter had an assignment today in 4th grade. The kids were asked to write a letter to Ben Laden. It broke my heart to listen to her retell the story that she wrote. Although she scolded this bad man for the horrible things that he did to " millions " of people, she admitted that she still had love in her heart for him as did God. I wish that I could be as forgiving and I will never forget. I am, however, disturbed that her teacher assigned this writing lesson. We have been following the advice of the First Lady and have not had the news on constantly while the kids were around. One of the restrictions the teachers gave was that the kids could not say that they wanted Ben Laden killed or that they hated him. I wish that she hadn't assigned this in the first place, but to tell the kids what they couldn't say took away any kind of catharsis that these young kids could have had in telling their true feelings. Am I way off base here, or just being overly emotionally on this very sad day??? I Remember... 231/198/169 " There is no failure except in no longer trying. Guest guest
, I don't think you are way off base at all. First of all you should never tell a child to withhold they're feelings. If they feel that he should die then they have a right to voice their feelings, are don't issue the assignment. I am surprised that she would assign something like that to children so young, but was impressed at the way grand daughter handled it. She must be a very special girl. -- Question of the Day~9.11~ Where were you and how did you hear about the attacks last year? Guest guest
I think that is a wonderful way to work through the shock and grief. You need to be able to talk (write) and share your feelings. It is the only way to move on. -- Re: Question of the Day~9.11~ OMG!!!
