Guest guest
Trisha, Well, we went to ' appointment with the pediatric physiotherapist yesterday at the Craniofacial clinic in the hospital. My concern that he had brachycephaly turned out to be a valid one. He does have it, but very mild. The physiotherapist pointed out that he doesn't have the height that some babies get with the top of their heads (pushing up almost like a cone), so that's a good sign. The top of his head does round out. And he is starting to have some rounding out in the back--to me it looks like a little lump, but she said that it is a good sign. She told me that out of the 800 babies they see each year, only about 35 get banded. Here where I live (in Alberta, Canada) the treatment is all covered. So when she told me only a few get banded, I wasn't sure whether to think that's a good thing or not. She said that most of the babies she sees are able to correct the shape of their heads simply through repositioning techniques. And she did give me some good pointers on how to do that. But I couldn't help but wonder whether that number (35 out of 800) is so low because they are only trying to take the most critical babies and keep cost factors down. She wants to see us in 6 weeks from now to see how the repositioning works for . I will do my best to follow her tips, but I just hope that I'm not wasting precious time. I hope the back of his head does return to normal shape. He is now almost 7 months old. When we see her again, he will be 8 months old. I feel like I have no other choice but to believe what she said. This is the only clinic I know of in my province that does this sort of assessment. Otherwise, I may have to fly to another province or even to the States, and we just don't have the money for that. Well, I am so glad I found this site and get to read the experiences of other people. I will keep you and everyone posted on ' progress. Thanks again!
