Guest guest
To make a long story short, it is my understanding that lactilol, malitol, sorbitol, splenda, whatever, can be absorbed in very degrees, but minimally so. I also know that high amounts of some of these things can cause diarreha, gas pains, etc. I think malitol is even used as a laxatives, I think overseas.... I recall someone posting once (different list serve). The reason most of these are still allowable on some of the keto/atkins like diets is that they are absorbed very slowly, and have much less impact on the whole insulin/body cycle than real sugar - much much less. I am not on the keto diet, but do an atkins like diet, as I feel better on it, overall. Can I ask how the keto diet helps you? Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the further info on the " itol " sugars. Your explanation might help me understand why I can't seem to manage sorbitol and others can. I don't have blood sugar problems, I just can't seem to manage to process carbs very well, regardless of whether they metabolise fast or slow, without a swift and severe increase in just about all my " mito-type " symptoms. I'm so glad to hear that you are feeling better on the Atkins diet. I have been on a ketogenic diet for about a year. It makes a HUGE difference in my symptoms. I had been a vegan for 25 years and my diet was high in whole food, organic, complex carbs. The change was difficult philosophically, but I didn't have a great deal of choice. The ketogenic diet is thought to often be an effective diet for the type of mito I probaly have. Best Wishes, Anita (probably PDCD/PDH and currently going after a definitive diagnosis) > To make a long story short, it is my understanding that lactilol, > malitol, sorbitol, splenda, whatever, can be absorbed in very degrees, > but minimally so.
