Guest guest
I just contacted epic 4health because I want to try QGel. I'm devastated to find out that all their products either have sorbitol or Xylitol (a sugar alcohol) in them, even the gel caps, even the sugar free gel caps. I just can't believe it. You'd think they'd make ONE that people with carb intolerances, or who are on ketogenic diets could take! Heck, if I wanted to eat carbs I'd eat ice cream, not QGel! Thanks for letting me vent! Guest guest
Anita, I don't do well on Tishon's CoQ and never have. Perhaps this is why. I use the Puritan's Pride product and order it when it's on sale. Right now you can order buy 2 get 3 free but it's even better when you can buy 1 and get 2 free. They have that sale twice a year. http://www.puritanspride.com You can also go to Vitamin World stores and get the same product but it's more expensive that way. Vitamin World also has a webstore..still expensive.. at http://www.vitaminworld.com and this is exactly the same as Puritan's Pride. I hope these work for you. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I guess I never suspected that. Will have to take that into account with the insulin. Guest guest
Whoa, time out! I am on a ketogenic diet to help my symptoms, and my understanding is that the sugar alcohols (like xylitol and sorbitol) are not absorbed by the intestines, so do not have a carbohydrate load (even though they technically are carbohydrates). Has anyone checked into this, or do other people on ketogenic diets avoid all " no sugar " lactitol, maltitol, xylitol, etc. products that tout " made for diabetics " ?j I don't know if the epic4health people would know about ketogenic diets, but I haven't found a good dietitian yet for my diet plan, does anyone have a dietitian they could ask? Thanks, RH > Thanks for the info. I guess I never suspected that. Guest guest
Hi RH, So nice to make contact with another ketogenic person (mine is a modified version). You're the first one I've been in contact with. Yes, I'd love to have the sorbitol/xylitol carb question definitively answered by a dietician, but I know of none. I only know I can't manage sorbitol because it makes my symptoms worse in the same way that carbs do. I just kind of assumed it was because of the carbs, as I can't seem to process them (in more than tiny quantities) without symptoms. It's possible it's just an allergic reaction to the sorbitol. Would you mind me asking what mito condition you have? We ought to trade recipes:-) Best Wishes, Anita (probably PDCD/PDH and still seeking an " official " diagnosis) > > Thanks for the info. Guest guest
Hi, Anita and RH I am not on a ketogenic diet, although I have been considering trying it. I do limit my carbs severely, because for me, I think there is an association between too many carbs and feeling very tired, sleepy, mentally slugish and just plain lousy. Not pain, but extreme fatigue and mental numbness. May I ask what symptoms you get when you eat carbs? Thanks, Sunny > Hi RH, > So nice to make contact with another ketogenic person (mine is > a modified version).
