Guest guest
Just thought I'd mention that I was told by my Dr. that I could NOT take Ibprofen while breastfeeding and to be careful with extra strength Tylenol. Guest guest
I took them too and was told by my Dr. that anything the baby would be able to take, I can take and babies can have ibuprofen and Tylenol. You can check with Dr. Hale on that. :c) Joan S. New here: Sore nipples, can't take it! Guest guest
This happened to me also, with my second son and now my daughter. For me it only lasted two weeks and then we settled into a good pattern. It's like my nipples had to develop somewhat of a calice and for me it took two weeks with both babies. The Lansinoh was really a Godsend for me. I diligently put that stuff on after every feeding and sometimes in between feedings. My daughter is now two months old and I don't even have to use it anymore. Don't use harsh soap on your nipples when you bathe/shower. You can try airing out your nipples after your shower and after feedings. I have heard the advice of squeezing a few drops of milk onto your nipples after feeding and allow to dry. Try a different position at each feeding to minimize the soreness to one area. Also for me, I had to make sure my baby wasn't smacking her lips. If you hear that, then they're damaging your nipples unnecesarily. Just like the previous advice, make sure there is a good suction connection, mouth to nipple. Hope this helps. Guest guest
The doctor would be wrong. There are VERY FEW (yes I am yelling that part) drugs that are truly contraindicated during BF. Many doctors will cover their butts though and tell you not to take anything. Guest guest
I had surgery to remove a cyst when Blake was 2 months old. I didn't take the prescribed meds b/c they made me sleep, and I couldn't do that with a baby. I was taking 800 mg of ibuprofen every 4 hours and it didn't bother Blake in any way. I have never heard that you couldn't take ibuprofen. I agree that some doctors tell you things just to cover themselves. Guest guest
The only danger from ibuprofen would be if you are having bleeding problems. If you are in pain the painkiller will be used by your body and only minute amounts (if any) will go to the baby. In addition to nursing while taking 2400 mg of ibuprofen per day, another time I was taking Tylenol 3 (with codeine) around the clock while nursing. Guest guest
This doctor is misinformed. These drugs are routinely recommended for pain and are considered fine while breastfeeding. I was given both in the hospital after having my kids, and used them at home too.
