Guest guest
What is the relationship between torticollis and plagiocephaly? Meaning if we receive treatment for the tort. will plagio diminish- or just not worsen? With tort treatment- physical therapy, tummy time, neck exercises, and agressive repo....will flat head recorrect itself or is further treatment usually needed in your experiences? Also- is there any professional out there- PT, Pediatrician, Plastic Surgeon, etc. that can tell me if my daughter's flat spot will improve with the above or I need to move quicker- and pursue a helmet? I am just concerned that my daughter may have to wear it longer- since she is 4.5 months- if we wait till she is 6 months? She has been told by Cranial Tech. that she has a moderate case. Thank you again. How low will we go? Check out Messenger’s low PC-to-Phone call rates.
Guest guest
Torticollis can cause plagio because they favor sleeping on one side of the back of the head due to a favored neck postition. The plagio that is there, in my opinion, will most likely stay unless you have success with aggressive repo which needs to be done 24/7. The PT will help the tort and thus keep the plagio from getting worse. But if they continue to be on their back alot they may favor that flat spot even if their neck gets better. The flat spot becomes a easy place for the head to rest on. We waited from 4 months until to 5 months to make our decision and then our son was in his DOC band 2 days before turning 6 months. Sometimes I wish he would have been in the band at 5 months as he has severe brachy. But I am very happy about the decision to band. It doesn't bother him at all and his head is already rounding out. As far as a professional telling you if it will improve or not....it seems that they are very widely different in their opinions. Those that are pro band will suggest banding readily. Others seem to want to tell parents it will round out. There is another group for older babies and children with plagio. Maybe you should read some of the posts there. OlderPlag/ If CT said it is moderate I myself would band. Just ask yourself if you would be happy if her head never improved. I doubt you will regret banding but you may regret not banding. Try the repo for 4 weeks or so and then decide. Of course this is only my opinion based on my experience with my son. Best of luck to you. Guest guest
Hi, I don't know much about tort because my daughter didn't have it. I can tell you though that 6 months is not too late for you daughter to be banded, because my daughter was 6 months old when she got her band. The length of time spent wearing a band depends on the severity and the age that treatment begins. Our process for getting my daughter in a band went like this : firt her ped referred us to a physical therapist to check for tort, then the physical therapist referred us to a plastic surgeon to see the severity and to see if she needed to wear a band, he then said she did and wrote out a perscription for her band and then we went to our ortho who does the casting and all the adjustments, fitting etc. I don't know if it works like that for all people but that is how things went for us and all the people we had to see in order to decide if she needed to wear a band. STARband 1/3106 Hopefully a graduate today!! >> What is the relationship between torticollis and plagiocephaly?> Meaning if we receive treatment for the tort. will plagio diminish- or just not worsen?> > With tort treatment- physical therapy, tummy time, neck exercises, and agressive repo....will flat head recorrect itself or is further treatment usually needed in your experiences?> > Also- is there any professional out there- PT, Pediatrician, Plastic Surgeon, etc.> that can tell me if my daughter's flat spot will improve with the above or I need to move quicker- and pursue a helmet?
