Guest guest
Thanks Laurie. Which form of diabetes is symptomatic? How often do people with mito come down with this? I have a suspicion that I may be " pre-diabetes " - have a few signs such as frequent urination, little skin openings on my feet, etc. I did a home glucose test which according to NIH's value table is somewhat above normal. I will speak with my doc when I see him. If anyone elso out there has this, I would love to hear from them. Thanks, W
Guest guest
Winard Diabetes is very common with mito. Mine and others have a different kind of presentation than normal. My blood sugar goes up when I am physically stressed and down when I don't do much which is opposite for most diabetes. Then there are those with mito who have the normal kind of pattern. I take Alpha Lopoic Acid to stabilize my blood sugar and keep track of my blood glucose levels. On the UMDF web site there is a statement about diabetes being connected to mito. There is research going on to see what the connection is. In most cases it would not be inherited mito, but involvement of mito in the symptoms. laurie > From: Larus1@... > Reply-To: > Date: Wed, 12 May 2004 20:19:46 EDT > To: > Subject: Re: Diabetes > > Thanks Laurie. Guest guest
Yes--but be prepared. I and I think a few others on this list our blood sugar doesn't act like " normal " diabetics. My blood sugar goes up when I exercise--even walking alot. But if I am stationery at the computer doing " brainwork " for a few hours it can drop to below 100. Most of the time it is " stuck " at around 250 unless I use insulin or am doing physical activity--then it goes up.
