Guest guest
Betty, there is an article about this very thing at www.suite101.com that Elaine wrote, if I'm not mistaken. She is an expert on what to expect with testing when you've had RAI and can give you specifics. If I'm not mistaken, I've read that not only is TSH suppressed when we take anti thyroid drugs when hyper (which mine was, and also caused the dr to overmedicate me resulting in hypoT), but after RAI, it can stay suppressed too, but for how long, I'm not sure. Elaine works in this field, and has many years experience with Graves disease, and RAI. I am betting if you post a message to her at Graves_Support, here on yahoogroups, she'll give you better details than I can. I was a real booger and refused to take RAI, but she's got a wealth of knowledge on this issue and has had both Graves and RAI, and is now on Armour thyroid if I'm not. Just be sure to title the post Elaine , and she will respond once she see's it. If not for her group, I might never have gotten better from being so overmedicated with the atd's. They are the ones who finally clued me in on how badly my treatment was being going. They were right. SandyE~Houston I have a question for anyone that has graves, took antithyroid drugs, took RAI? Okay I have graves. For two years I took PTU. Decided to take the RAI. Continued taking the PTU and beta blockers until Feb. 12th this year. After I took the RAI, I went hypo in July. Everytime I get my bloodtests my TSH is suppressed. I was just wondering if there is anyone out there that is in the same boat as me. It could be that I was hypo too long, don't think I am depressed. Of course SOME DOCTORS can make you depressed gggrrrr!!! I read on a website that the TSH is not a good indicator of how the thryroid is doing for a long time after taking RAI. ANYBODY? COMMENTS!!!
