Guest guest
Fibroid patient's fibroids may be all different sizes and on thing I've heard is that fibroid shrinking drugs may make a small one smaller and therefore unnoticed. Not everyone was prescribed a shrinking drug - I wasn't for my abdominal myomectomy (preserving my fertility hopefully). I would be very surprised if anyone suggested a hysterectomy to you as you are young and it's mostly women in their forties that have this option put to them. In the unlikely event that this is mentioned I hope you will reject any talk of hysterectomies, ***unless you are told there are special circumstances in your case ****(and then get a second opinion from another independent place and read Carla Dionne's book). At 19, who knows what the future will bring and other treatments can fix symptoms. Have you checked out the excellent books on Fibroids at Amazon? They are extremely helpful. If the doctor suggests a watch and wait approach, I recommend you get check ups once in a while to see if the fibroids have grown or stayed the same (ultrasound and examination). Always remind any future new GP that you have fibroids and make sure it's taken into consideration when choosing birth control methods, as that's important. It's possible that the wrong kind of pill or other method might actually make the problem worse. The doc may suggest treating the symptoms, if you have very heavy bleeding. This really helps some women. If you are prone to very bad bleeding get advice on relieving this generally and also what to do if you have very scary bleeding incidents. If you don't have this already you're OK. Get advice if you think you are prone to anaemia through blood loss and eat iron rich foods you like, such as dark green veg and red meat if you eat that and if it doesn't aggravate your symptoms. A healthy diet is a good idea to avoid getting low on anything and it may even relive some symptoms and help the body balance hormones better. There's a lot that's not known, but a sensible diet can only help good health. Lots of fruit and veg are good and given the choice, organic is better, because of all the rubbish added to and sprayed on food these days (Like hormones in livestock).
