Guest guest
Alice (warm hugs) I am sure you are very disappointed. How much sound are you getting with the left side? What is the quality of your speech discrimination etc? Will they try a new map on the right on 4/28? Vivian
Guest guest
As you know, today was the activation of my replacement on the right. I wish I had better news but unfortunately, I do not. The map looks a little different than the last one did before the surgery but it's not what I had hoped and prayed for. On it's own, I cannot hear with the right side, even with a new implant. Wearing the left with it, I can hear and quite well. The left, with it's multiple electrodes outside of the cochlea, is pulling all the weight. We are hoping that my appointment on 4/28 shows some improvement on the right but it may be time to accept the fact that my medical condition is going to render the implant useless. I've been preparing myself for that so it was easier to handle the difficult session today. Alice
Guest guest
Vivian, As long as I have both processors on, I'm hearing pretty well. Speech discrimination is ok I think so far. I suspect I will lose the right completely as it was making a rapid dive when I had the surgery. It's about where it was when I left off right now... sounds identical. I could not use the right alone and get by. I have been managing since the beginning of March with the left although it only helps alone in a very closed in area.. pretty much one on one and men are very difficult. Yes.. we will try a new map on 4/28 and hope my Ts and Cs can be widened. My T's in the low range are very, very high.. the first 8 electrodes. The high electrodes.. are in a normal range which is what is different than before. They were not when we gave up on the right and opted for another surgery. Guest guest
Alice I will keep praying for you. I am sure this is very disappointing. I am glad however that you do have reasonably good sound in the left. As long as you are getting some sound. Am again deaf with no sound. My ear hook has fallen off my mike and I cannot get it to stay on. I have to think that this is all due to the fact that my externals are all aged and abused! Any sound is better than no sound. Guest guest
Dear Alice, I am so sorry that your CI hookup on Monday did not go so well. I hope that time will be on your side, and that the next attempt will be much better! You are such a trooper, and have been through so much already.... Sending you prayers and good wishes. Hang in there. Love,

Guest guest
Alice, sorry to hear those results. I will pray that your implant will work better on your return appt. Good Luck. glad to hear you left is working good. How did you know you were loosing your hear , at the very first. I have started having a tapping in my right ear, with some pain.My husband is deaf in one ear so it is hard for me to tell if the tv is louder than normal.
