Guest guest
Hi, i'm new to this whole group thing so if someone already asked the question, please let me know where I can find the answer. My daughter is four months old has moderate plagio. I have been taking her to the doctor regarding her head shape since she was 6 weeks old and they keep telling me that it will go away. Well it hasen't and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I keep going to different doctors to see if they will give me a different response and they all have the same answer. " Lots of tummy time, reposintion, and it will all go away after she starts to sit up on her own " . The whole tummy time thing isn't working because she can only stand it for about 15 min at a time before she starts to cry uncontrolably. I feel like I am the only one concerned about my babys head shape. One doctor even had the nerve to tell me that if it didn't go away it was okay because I had a girl and her hair could cover it up. What a jerk! Oh, and to top it all off I go to a miltary hospital.... not the best service in the world. What can I do to make them take action?? Guest guest
Hello and welcome. Sadly... WAY too many Doctors tell parents that plagio will go away on it's own and/or they say that " the hair will cover it. " Though this is not the norm at all. If you are very diligient with repositioning from very young, sometimes parents are able to improve the baby's plagio enough that they do not feel the need to seek other treatment (band or helmet). At your Daughter's age, you still have some time to try repositioning for another month or 2, but time is of the essence and if you feel that repositioning is not working, then banding may be your best option. No, the plagio most likely will not " fix itself " . Many people wait until about 6 months of age, working on repositioning until then, and then make a decision. At 6 months a baby's growth slows down, which is why repositioning is not as effective after that age. As far as getting the Doctor(s) on board with doing something about the plagio, I'm not too sure what to tell you. Some people actually end up having to switch Drs in order to get someone to listen to them about the plagio. We actually went to a craniofacial surgeon/plastic surgeon who had us reposition until 6 mo and then we started the ball rolling to get our Daughter banded. You are your Daughter's voice and sometimes we have to push for what our kids need. Good luck with everything and please keep us updated. Guest guest
Hi, I'm an adult with plagio. The docs told my parents the same thing when I was an infant. They also said that if it didnt go away on it's own, we could pursue surgery (if that's what I chose to do), when I was done growing. I've lived with the plagio my whole life. It is not something I chose for myself, and it is not something I've enjoyed dealing with. I too wish the docs would have been more proactive with my situation. I grew up with the same hairstyle in hopes to hide the shape of my head from the world. Are you kidding me? You can't make the shape of your head any less conspicuous. I grew very tired of hiding behind my hair. With that mentality, I also hid away from other activities in life that I would enjoy. I say, this is your child, this is your life, this is your decision. Do not allow the doctors to dictate what you know in your heart is best for your child. For whatever reason, they are being unaccommodating with your needs. Keep persisting, and be firm. They must comply once they see how strongly you feel about it. Eventually you will find a doc who is compassionate and understanding of your situation. Dont give up until you feel you have exhausted all your resources. Best wishes, > > Hi, i'm new to this whole group thing so if someone already asked the > question, please let me know where I can find the answer. > > My daughter is four months old has moderate plagio.
