Hi Shilpa,

Here's a link from the Joslin Center for Diabetes which shows what the

standard goal ranges are for diabetes:

http://www.joslin.org/Beginners_guide_523.asp

Diabetes can be heriditary but does not always happen. The important

thing to do is have regular blood tests for your child thru the

regular check ups with her doctor as he/she grows up. If it is not the

same doctor you have, make sure they know you have diabetes. Maybe

read some material about childhood diabetes and symptoms so you would

know if you suspected anything and also how to avoid problems in the

future. Other than that if your child eats properly and has plenty of

exercise they can probably avoid it in the future. Your dr can go over

family medical history and tell you the risk factors for your child

specifically. There are various stages to diabetes and even insulin

resistance and it progresses differently in different people so it is

kind of hard to say one thing fits all. Definitely read all you can

and talk to the family dr.
