I was told that the pouch empties out in about 30 minutes. This means

that I had to draw a line and have a beginning and an end to my

meals, otherwise I would start grazing. When I get full, my meal is

done. I do eat 6 times a day so this keeps my nutrition and protein

up. (and my supps too!!!). At one time I was sitting at the table

and eating over a 40 minute period and was consuming way too much.

Now I eat in about 20 minutes and am done. I physically remove my

plate from the table and then sit back down if the family is not

done. this way I won't have the tendancy to eat more at that meal

There is a big difference between being physically hungry and having an empty

stomach. An empty stomach doesn't mean its time to eat. Our pouches empty

anywhere from 10 minutes to 40 - 50 minutes depending on the size of the

pouch and the stoma. The more food it holds, the longer it takes to empty.

And yes, a normal stomach can hold food for hours, due to the pyloric valve

and also overfilling . .. I almost failed my RNY early on because I ate all

the time. I ate because I was empty, nit because I felt I needed to be

nourished. I am glad I learned that lesson aswithout it, I would never have

lost 100% of my excess weight seamingly effortlessly. The effort was all in

learning to listen to my body and respect its needs so that I felel good

almost all the time!

Don't forget...............no drinking of liquids 15 min before you

eat.....and 1 1/2 hrs after you eat......This is VERY important!!!!

Because, if you do....your pouch will empty muuuch faster.....and you will be

much more hungry....and oftener.......Good luck all.....and take care...(read

God Bless,
