Helen,

I ended up being in the same position you are about 2 months ago. I ended up thinking I was being smart because I caught the mistake a week before I was going to run out..I had a new prescription but the date was off by 3 days ..so instead of taking my morphine 2 times a day I took it 1 time a day for 3 days. I still went into withdrawal..and I ended up in the ER in so much pain..Headache..vomiting..and sweats and chills. The gave me a shot of morphine to get me through that day. Good thing my prescription was good for the next day and got it filled at 9am the next morning...will never do this again..it was horrible. I would call your dr ans service and tell them you are in pain. They do not need to hear you need a prescription because that is not an emergency to them..they don't realize how serious an emergency it can be..they just follow a set of instructions from the dr. Also if they won't page your dr go to the ER..bring your

empty bottle with you and tell them what happened...sometimes they will write out a script for 4-6 pills to get you through the weekend. The ER can call your dr...insist on them calling if they refuse to believe you...because most ER drs know nothing about RSD or how it is treated. Good luck and hope you get the help you need..Ginnyjaismonkey@... wrote:

I find myself with no morphine and not being able to get any until Monday evening at the earliest. My doc's answering service will not take a message that has to do with prescriptions, so I cannot make him aware of this mess. Do any of you know what will happen when I start to withdraw from the morphine

Hi Helen,

some symptoms you might encounter are: restlessness, sweating, chills, twitching/spasms, abdominal cramps, backache, hot and cold flashes, nausea/vomiting, increased heart rate and temperature. These symptoms can start 36-72 hours after last dose and usually run their course in 5-7 days. If you start to feel side effects go to the ER. Who cares what they think. It was an honest mistake and you should not have to suffer!!!!! Take care, Love Jai

Dawn,

That is what I was told by 3 nurses and 2 doctors in the ER when I went the last time.....that they are no longer allowed to have Demerol or any Scheduled 2 Narcotics in the Emergency Room to give any Patients when they come in complaining of Chronic Pain, Migraines, back problems, etc.

This was after they asked me what helped my pain and I told them that the only thing that helped my flares was Demerol. The doctor said that they didn't have any because the Law changed and they wasn't allowed to have any Schedule 2 narcotics in the ER's any more due to too many Drug Users coming in for a Quick Fix.

When I asked them when did the law change and who changed it, they said that it was just recently (this was just last month) and that it was the DEA that changed it.

Thats the only info I have....is what they told me. Sorry about that....that I can't give you a website or anything that would help explain anything better.

All I DO know is that I left the ER in More pain that I actually walked in with AGAIN!

Tonia,

I was a little curious about this new law also. When I was in the ER recently the doctor there actually asked what type of pain narcotic would I like? I thought that was odd, being he was the doctor, but I am at least glad that he recognized my pain and wanted to give me something for it! I was actually good and told him not to give me anything, because I had methadone with me and would see my regular doctor on Monday! Tonia if you have a website I could go to and read about this or know where I can get more info about this, please let me know, I am really curious how they feel that this can be done legitimately and how people will suffer and not get treated correctly!! I am thinking that this has to fall under certain circumstances and if you do have legitimate pain and an excisting condition they must treat you!!!

Well if you have more info please send it and I hope all is well with you and your family!!! I hope the girls are being much better behaved for you and your husband. Have you gotten all your Christmas Shopping done yet? I put all my gifts under the tree last night and do not have nearly any room for the gifts my Mom is bring over and the ones my sister sent from Colorado. It looks like my Mom and I are a family of ten with all the presents we bought each other! I know I did not have the money, but my Mom is worth it more than anyone I know, for all that she does for me! She is even paying for my dog to get professionally groomed this week. That is going to cost about $94.00. That is more expensive than my hair! Mine is only $80.00 and I have a lot more done!

Well again sorry for the Novel and hope all is well. Do not hit me with the cyber noodle please, word just came out and hope you have a great day! LOL and Best Wishes Always!!!

Dawn
