Eryn,

This sounds very scary I would certainly be worried too. A few

weeks back, my daughter was making strange breathing noises (on

inhalation) which our ped could not explain. We saw an ENT and he

stuck a scope down her throat and said she had an omega-shaped

epiglottis (sp?) which is slightly abnormal (should be a semi-

circle), but not unusual in babies due to weaker cartilage. With

time, he said the cartilage should strengthen and it would be fine.

Anyway, he said this could cause a " collapse " of I believe it was

the opening in the larynx and it would most likely occur when the

baby cries. I don't think this was related to my daughter's strange

noises even though she had this omega-shaped thing because she never

did it when she cried--it was more like when she was exerting

herself. Still, I wondered if it could be related to the

torticollis and due to some kind of crowding of the airway

structures and I wonder if your daughter might have a similar issue

but more like what the ENT described since it occurs when she

cries. I believe he called this laryngomalacia--you may want to

look it up and see if any of the symptoms fit and take her to an ENT

to get her airway checked out. Please let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Mom to SHannon, 9 mos., tort & plagio (STarband)
