Guest guest
I don't think it should rotate that much. if you just got it I might give it a week or two, but if it doesn't sit right after that I would ask for a new band (at no cost). -christine mom to sydney/ 14 mo / starband grad 10-06 > > our helmet keeps rotating & crushing one ear. the ortho said it's > normal to have to do several adjustments to make sure it's on properly > (which we do). i'm only concerned about the night time when i'm not > adjusting it & the front of the ear is being pushed in. part of the > cartilage is pushed in & making ear hole smaller. anyone else been > through this? any tips on how to prevent it from doing damage to the > ear? > > thanks, > angela >
Guest guest
- My son DJ just got his helmet and I have a similar problem, but I don't think his shifts as much as yours. I have the issue though with having to put it on and then keep adjusting. His ears are often touching the " ear holes " , but they never seem to be aggravated or pinched etc. I think it bothers ME more than him, since I worry it *may* be hurting him. From what I read here, it seems common that when you first receive the helmet or band that it would be " shifty " a little more than normal, because it basically has room to grow...but I also know it shouldn't be TOO much, I guess it's a fine line! If I were you I think I may give it a week or so and see how it goes. Then bring it up to him again and show him what you are worried about. Unless it seems to be bothering your son? In that case I'd check sooner. I go in for our 1 week appointment next Wed. and plan on asking if I've got the helmet on correctly, and asking about the slight shifting, just to make sure everything is OK. Hope this helps some..... Guest guest
Go back OFTEN until it's resolved! A little rotation in the beginning is normal, but it should be no more than 1/4-1/2 " . Our ortho also blew me off about the rotation (it would fold his ear over at night) and after 6 months in a bad fitting STARband, I feel it made his facial asymmetry worse. If you have a STARband, Orthomerica is usually good about providing a new band for free if the ortho can't get it adjusted properly - you just have to know to ask. Good luck!
