Guest guest
I also have no children and no man in my life. I will be 38 in February. I have been experiencing much cramping and bloating since Thanksgiving and will be going to the doctor this week. If I would happen to be diagnosed with fibroids I would prefer to have a myomectomy rather than a hysterectomy because I am just not ready to go through menopaus at 38. I don't mind not having periods anymore (that would be great) and I am willing to adopt children if I would find a man in the future. Besides most men that age already have children from a previous marriage. I just don't want to go through all the emotions of menopause and the risks for osteoporosis and hormone replacement, etc. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi, I see a hyst as a permanent solution when other options are available. Why take your choices away? Who knows what your future holds. There are different kinds of hysts. With reports of problems after hysts by many women. I wasn't going to trade one set of problems for another. If you want a hyst, it's your body, have one. Think long in hard. A myo can get the results you are looking for and leave you with the option of having a child or not. What concerns me deeply is that the docs in my area had no intention of informing me about any other options but hysts. So the women here get hysts blindly. It's only that I found this group and researched the web that I knew different. The GYN seemed embarressed by my knowledge but was she embrassed enough to inform her other patients? I want to make my own choices. Just think about it. Ask questions and research. Ku hedgehog6865 wrote: Dear all I am a 38 year old Australian woman with no children just been diagnosed with fibroids. I have been booked in for an ultrasound friday 16th which willl give a clearer picture. I would love to hear from anyone who has had no children by choice and has now had the possibility of ever having one taken away. My gyno has suggested either a Myo or Hyster. She has requested the hospital to advise my position on conception after the ultrasound show a clearer picture. I am 95% sure I so not want to have a child but when your choice is taken away it's a bit different. Love to hear from anyone Thanks
Guest guest
Hi , I am 39 and have no kids. My husband and I kept putting off having kids....waiting until we were more established...had enough money...etc. 2 years ago I was diagnosed with fibroids....my Dr. gave me options of 1. Watch and Wait 2. Myomectomy 3. Hysterectomy. Since the fibroids at the time were not bothering me, I chose the watch and wait approach......that worked for 1 1/2 years until this August when they began to cause me much pain. I then decided to go ahead with the myomectomy since I really wanted to preserve my fertility. Due to the large size of my fibroids and the fact that I was anemic, my Dr. suggested that I go on Lupron for 3 months prior to surgery. I had the surgery in December, however, the myomectomy turned into a hysterectomy due to the fact that the fibroids had taken over so much of the inside space of the uterus. My Dr. did not believe that he would be able to repair the uterus to a point that it would be viable to maintain a pregnancy after taking out the fibroids (I had 2 20cm fibroids 1 10cm fibroid and several more inside the uterus). I knew going into the surgery that a hysterectomy could happen if there were complications. I really did not feel that this is what would happen. Choosing to not have kids or put it off is different than all of the sudden having the decision made for you. Since the surgery in talking to my Dr. and reading the pathology report and surgical report, I realize that the hysterectomy was a sound decision for my situation. With how fibrous my uterus was and how efficient it was at growing the tumors....I probably would have been back in surgery in a few years. That being said....that is not the case for everyone....and it is a decision that you should really think through and read everything you can get your hands on! I hope this helps. Good luck to you in making this decision.
