Guest guest
Hi again , it sure makes me tired too, and what I think is the best thing, it is a good kind of tired, if you know what I mean? If I take real sleep meds, I sometimes feel a weird tired, which is not good at all. It sure knocks you out, but until I go to sleep, I feel really drugged. I don't like that. I can't believe that some people actually use sleep meds and stay awake on them... Yuck... Also the sleep meds often gives you a hangover in the morning, many other things which aren't real sleep meds do that too. And it is sure tough enough to get up in the morning, I certainly do not need to be extra tired and feel like my brain has been stuffed with cotton wool... LOL... I am happy that you can get it OTC in the US, because I know I get help from it when I need it. I also think it is good in helping you sleep when you are in a lot of pain. I guess that maybe is what I mean about it making you " good tired " , it helps me relax too. I saw a real example of that when I was with a friend in the hospital once. She was in an awful amount of pain, and they had given her the pump where she could push the button regularly when she needed to. She really needed to sleep after a long ordeal, but she couldn't sleep at all, she was moaning of all the pain. But she was also itching a lot from the tremendous amounts of different narcotics they had given her. So they administered benadryl. Finally she got some sleep. She did wake up every now and then, regularly as the pain med subsided, but she just hit the button and went straight back to sleep after a few seconds. So it sure is a good help. I have no idea why they took it off the market here in Norway. They are really quick in doing that if they think something can be harmful in any way. But I suspect that the reason for this med. is that they just wanted to have less of the old fashioned antihistamines on the market, or something like that. I have felt tempted to e-mail them and ask about it, because I am really curious... I actually just took a benadryl myself. I need to get to bed in a decent time today, I am taking my little Yorkie love Peanut to the vet tomorrow. She has been sneezing for two days. Actually she kept me awake sneezing so bad that the bed was shaking last night. Not that many times, but every time she did it, she sneezed so hard her whole body jumped and she sneezed 5 times each time. Sure was enough to wake me up. Poor thing, she was so tired, she slept half the day. Right now she lays on my lap sleeping, but she'd rather have me put her to bed. Only problem is that I have to go to bed with her, she refuses to be there alone in the evening. She is a little tired one in the morning, so she often sleeps a little while longer than I do then, but no way she will do it in the evening. She just tortures me by nagging me until I give in and go to bed. It is so funny how dogs are such routine creatures, they want things to happen at the same time and in the same way each day... Oh well, if the benadryl does it's job, I'll be following her any minute! Take care! Aase Marit > >Maybe I misunderstood the pharmacist. I know benedryl is used for >sleep in the hospital, as well as things like itching from meds. >Well, any allergic reaction. >I probably just didn't understand what he was telling me at the time. > >Either way, I've heard many times that benedryl is safer to take for >sleep than the " sleep " meds. > >It sure does make me tired when I take it. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for clearing that up... So diphenhydramine HCL is the antihistamine. It is only that it can be used for different purposes, not only as an antihistamine/allergy medication. Also it can probably be a bit confusing that you have so many mixed drugs containing this substance, e.g all those cold medications and such... Aase Marit >Hi all Benadryl is the same drug as Diphenhydramine HCL. > S, RN
Guest guest
Aase, that's why one must read all the ingrediants of OTC medications. They have trade names and generic names for the same medications, it makes it confusing for those that just don't know this! Good Luck my friend! Sincerely, S. Guest guest
Oh, poor puppy. Sounds like she needs some benedryl! lol My cat, who is 16 years old, has sneezed all her life. I think she has allergies. The vet could never find anything wrong with her. She doesn't sneeze during the winter. But, I don't think you can give pets benedryl. hehe We lived in England for 5 years, until 2 years ago, and they don't sell Benedryl there either. Which I hated, cause I use it for allergies. It does make me tired, but the other stuff makes my heart race. My son used benedryl sometimes too, but we had to change that to something else in England. Now they have better stuff, that doesn't mak him tired. I only use it as needed. My allergies get bad, and then I get like blisters on my eye balls. Benedryl is the best. I also used it after my hysterectomy last May when the morphine made me so itchy that I was bleeding from all the scratching. I couldn't sleep either. I was so drugged, but couldn't sleep. Until they gave me benedryl. I was really out of it then!
Guest guest
Hi , Nope, no codeine OTC. Not in Norway or any Scandinavian countries. I have never seen it in e.g. Spain either. I do know you can in Canada. Can you get codeine OTC in the UK? I didn't know that... Yes, I agree, it is strange and _stupid_ to let drugs have different names different places. Can easily cause confusion and problems when people travel... Oil of Olay used to be Oil of Ulay here, but not anymore... They changed it a few years ago. I have no idea why... It is really weird... Aase Marit >Yea, but can't you get codeine OTC? You can in England and Canada. >Not the really stong Codeine, but Codeine with paracetomol. > >Why do they do that, anyway? Change the names of things? That is so strange. >They even changed the name of a certain vacuum cleaner we had. In >the states, it's called " the Boss " and I can't remember what they >called it in England. Some guy told me " The Boss " sounded too much >like the queen. > >haha > >They even call " Oil of Olay " " Oil of Ulay " over there. Why? >Although, I heard they changed that.
