Guest guest
, I couldn't agree more, and after having been given the runaround about plagio at first, we finally ended up at an AWESOME cranial surgeon's office, who, long story short, when we had our last appt, made me promise to tell everyone and even call my OB nurses where I delivered to ask if they would add the information he gave me and the materials I found here (which he LOVED) to the packets they give to new moms after delivery. He was so concerned that his office could not get to everyone, but if all the plagio moms he worked with could get to their respective hospitals, maybe we could help some. Let me know any ideas and whatnot you have; I'm on board!!!! Guest guest
i also agree that plagio is not a known thing because i never heard of it till i had my daughter when she was diagnosed. well keep the awareness out there, peace.. lexie ,I couldn't agree more, and after having been given the runaround about plagio at first, we finally ended up at an AWESOME cranial surgeon's office, who, long story short, when we had our last appt, made me promise to tell everyone and even call my OB nurses where I delivered to ask if they would add the information he gave me and the materials I found here (which he LOVED) to the packets they give to new moms after delivery. Guest guest
The AAP did finally acknowledge the link between the BTS Campaign and an increase in Plagiocephaly in July of 2003. The article is in our links/AAP section. I would suggest printing that out and taking it with you to your next appt if anyone's ped gives them trouble. When my daughter was banded I also went on a quest for raising awareness. I emailed my local newspaper and Boston TV medical reporters and in turn got a front page story on Hannah in our newspaper (it is in the files/news story section here), plus one of the Boston news stations contacted me and did eventually do a news story on plagio. Another thing I did was make an informational handout to keep in our diaper bag for all the people who would ask about or stare at Hannah. You can see it on her website if you're interested. They best time you have to educate people about plagio is when your baby is banded, so take advantage! I also took her info sheet to our local early intervention office and pediatricians. Now that she's not in a helmet, people don't know to ask so the opportunity to educate isn't so big, aside from on the internet. I have her website, Hannah's Noggin, and use a tag (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v39/hannahsmom/hannahsnoggintag.jpg ) in signatures of all message boards I post on and on my My Space page. In the years I posted here frequently and was a mod, there were tons of posts about people mass emailing Oprah and other such people, but nothing ever came of them. The best luck I've seen people have is on the local level in getting newspaper and TV coverage. Maybe not what you're looking for, but a place to start for sure. Good luck! , mom to Hannah (DOCgrad '04) and Jack (2mos, to be DOCbanded soon) Cape Cod, Ma http://hannahsnoggin.typepad.com > > > > > > > > > > Hi Everyone and Happy Easter! > > > > > > > > > > Thanks to all of you for your very helpful answers to my > question > > > > > last week about aggressive repositioning for my 6 mo (4 mo > > > corrected > > > > > age) preemie. Guest guest
, I absolutely agree with you. Nothing was said to me either. Even when I asked about the flat spot and Tort possibility. From now on I am buying the noggin nest for all baby showers as well as a note to explain Plagio and Tort. If Doctors refuse to educate new moms and dads I will!!! If you need any help with your crusade let me know. Guest guest
Just wanted to chime in and say that I agree 100%! I have been saying this since DJ was 3 months and the doc's pointed out his flat spot. I wondered why was this not meantioned in ANY book I'd read, in any class I took at the hospital (we took several)...heck, not even any of my friends shared the possibility with me. Ironically, once I was telling people about the flat spot and then later the helmet, many people said they know other babies with this as well...This needs to be added to the classes at the hospitals so new moms know about this when they go home! Guest guest
Hi Everyone---It has been quite a while since I have been on this board. My 27 month old is a Danmar helmet grad. He began wearing it at 6 months and graduated 5 months later. He has rounded out quite well and when he lost some of his baby face he lost the prominance that his plagio left on the right side. When Everett was wearing his band was the time of the infamous People article. Not sure if you guys are aware of that one or not---but People ran a story about a baby who wore a helmet and proceeded to focus on the " cosmetic reason " for parents putting their babies in helmets. Go here to see some info on that: http://www.plagiocephaly.org/ Since learning about plagio I have a high awareness of it and the only things I have seen or heard since was a story in Parents magazine a hile back and a Noggin nest at Babies R Us that Boppy makes to prevent a flat spot on your baby's head (http://www.amazon.com/The-Boppy-Company-1335100K-Noggin/dp/customer- reviews/B00009K2YU). Everett was a preemie too and spent a week in NICU for pneumonia. Not once did anyone tell us that he was even more susceptible to getting plagio. How do they not know and why do they not say anything. Are they afraid to because they all back the BACK TO SLEEP program?? It is highly frustrating and I am a huge advocate for informing everyone I know and come across about plagio. Just thought I'd share. Oh and by the way the only diapers we ever had luck with were Huggies Supreme. Guest guest
, Let me know how the Oprah letter goes and if I can do anything to be of help. Not sure if more then 1 signature will help on the letter. DO you think if we had many signatures that it would make a difference? Oprah's such a great idea especially since so many women/moms/grandma's watch her Mom to CJ- 13mo. > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi Everyone and Happy Easter! > > > > > > > > > > > > Thanks to all of you for your very helpful answers to my > > question > > > > > > last week about aggressive repositioning for my 6 mo (4 mo > > > > corrected > > > > > > age) preemie.
