Please, please, please make sure you are having frequent labs done

for lactic acid if you go on the Glucophage. What works well for

some does not for all - even in the same family. I see it in mine

all the time.

I know you'll take care of yourself but I just had to say this. I

wouldn't want you to do something that would harm you because you

read that it was ok here. I have Glucophage and have not had

problems with it except that it dropped my sugar too low. I'm

currently taking Avandia but over the last few stressful weeks, my

sugar was very difficult to control although to my knowledge it only

went over 200 once. I was sticking in the 180's which is high for

me. That was even taking the Avandia and 500 mg of Alpha Lipoic

Acid every day.

Now that my surgery is behind me, my sugar readings have been much

better but my doctor still wants to have me try Glyburide for a

while to see if we can get my sugar readings more balanced rather

than the highs and lows I've experienced. I've never heard of it

before and even though I have it, I've not made the switch to it yet.

Yes,

The mito doc wants labs checked every two to three weeks. I also was on the

avandia and the endo was worried about liver damage so had to have that

done.

I will not do the Glucophage until this summer after we move and things have

settled down. I want to talk to Dr Tick the mito doc also. It is worth a

try but for now I am doing ok bringing the sugar levels down with the

humlog. I have a little chart the the endo wrote out that if I am at a

certain level when I check before a meal I take like 1 1/2 times for each 15

carbs, then I add a certain number of insulin units for each level I am on.

It generally works well and within 3 hours of testing and eating I am down

to around 125.

What also works for me is sitting like this on the computer or doing other

paperwork--can drop from above 250 to below 100 within an hour.

Thanks for the warning Alice, I will tread carefully.

it sounds as if you are keeping your numbers in line. If the insulin and

bolusing is working you may not need glucophage. My numbers were in the high3-4

hundreds and no matter what I did as far as insulin etc nothing worked. There

are other orals than glucophage if you need to pursue orals. You may want to

discuss the different options with your dr.

Thanks again Vivian. We did try a number of the orals and nothing worked

except than glucotrol worked. But after a couple of years I guess my body

became immune to it so that is when we went with Avandia and then Prandin

and Avandia. We may go back to orals but not alone as I need the

flexibility of lowering my blood sugar throughtout the day when I am active

and depending on what I am doing.
