Hey everyone... I have read this board for a while and now that I

have graduated to qualify for this board I finally have a couple of

things to add.

First is the existance of Calcium Citrate in liquid form that is

excellent tasting. It is called Tropical Oasis and it is in a brown

bottle that you pop in the fridge so it is smooth and cold... the

consistency is exactly like stirred yogurt and it tastes like fresh

tart citrus and is delicious. It isnt chalky. One tablespoon (which

I split into two doses) is 1200 units and since it is liquid AND

citrate I would imagine it is really readily available for

absorption. The main thing is that I dont have to take 4 horse

pills a day and it is NOT a horrific vile liquid, it is not only

pleasant it is GOOD. Just amazing. I buy it a Whole Foods Market

however it is available at their website www.tropicaloasis.com and

is listed as liquid calcium citrate and magnesium.

Second point... when you are responding to a post, how about

deleting all but the last post you are responding to... it is really

difficult to scroll through the pages of posts for just one short

comment. Can y'all pay attention to that and I promise that I will

too!

Other than that... I am Suze from Hillsboro Beach, Florida and my

lap RNY was on June 11, 2001 with Dr. Carrasquilla at Florida

Medical Center. I started out at 278 and I am down to 146. I eat

healthy and have totally changed my outlook on food. I go as low

carb as possible, mostly fish and seafood for protein and I have not

come close to testing my dumping mechanism. I am a great cook,

always have been so I just adapted my recipes for life including

excellent sugar free desserts. I drink a protein shake every

morning... Zero Carb Isopure with a little flavoring and lots of

ice, I actually enjoy them because they are like a Dairy Queen

shake. Sorry to be so cheery but life is perfect right now. Oh

wait, it is a little flabby but will be perfect after my TT in

August! Ciao everyone, Suze

Bob,

On your website you refer to your surgery as " stomach stapling " . Here you

have referred to it as the RNY. Could you share with us the actual stats of

your wls and how it was done being that you are a bit of history in the

progression of wls. Such as how was your pouch made, what size was/is it,

how much intestine was bypassed, etc. All the good stuff that would be in

the operative report.

Hi Suze

I have found a great calcium supplement also made

by Sundown. It is called Calcium 900+D (the D is

needed for absorbtion of the calcium). It is in softgell

form (300mg of calcium each), easily digestable taking

3 at one time, gives you a total of 900mg per dosage.

I buy it right off the shelf in the vitamin section of

WAL-MART.

Bob,

I question the value of 900 mg of Calcium. I was told that we can

only absorb 500 at a time. Does anyone know for sure?

Hi Sue,

Well then, if it is true, then I am at least getting those

500mg each day :)

I haven't a clue about what we can and can not absorb as per

volume of the supplements that we take.

This probably is NOT calc citrate. If it is, it would take several pills to

equal 900mg

Well Dawn,

My ROUX-en-Y was called a stomach stapling. I never heard the term RNY till I

moved from Moline, Ill to Virginia Beach, Virginia. My surgon that performed my

procedure, was involved in the initial case studies at the Univerty of Iowa

(where, incidently I was born in 1943 referred me to a general surgeon in this

city, that had learned the procedure under his supervision. It is even today,

referred to as a " stomach stapling " operation. But this is changing in the

beriatric community as there are several different types of operations

avialable.

In fact my surgical procedure involved having 2 rows of surgical staples applied

accros the top of my stomach, which was filled with a " very " small amount of

fluid by the anetheisologist, deloped a small pouch and then the bottom outlet

into the small intestinal tract was brought up on my left side of the pouch and

attached with a perforation in the pouch wall for my new digestive processing. I

have't a clue as to what the capicity of my pouch is, but the surgeon stated

that he made it considerably smaller to be sure that it was affective (413lbs at

surgery, July 13th, 1979; 190lbs. September 15th, 1980). I recently was informed

(from my colon surgery, January,1999 that I have additional " loop " which

supposedly precludes normal operation of the internal " flapper valve " used to

restricts backup of intestinal fluids (I am in doubt about this, or I would be

regergitating every time I eat or drink).
